Hi Dwaine,

I have been using Davinci resolve 18.6 version it was working just fine, but now it does not.
It start then crashes. Its only last for a 28 second before it crashes, I have tried so much that I’m aware with plus YouTube still did not help.

Specs:
Windows 11 Pro
Vaster 3670
Processor Intel Core TM i5-8400 CPU @2.80GHz
Installed RAM 20
GPU Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB)

Resolve appears to be crashing due to a proxy server on the network connection.

You can either remove that, or uninstall 18.6.6 using the Windows Apps & features Control Panel, and downloading and installing Resolve Studio 18.6.4, which is not affected by the network proxy issue.

Hi Dwaine and the Blackmagic Forum,

I am unable to open DaVinci Resolve 18, 17 or 16 on my Dell XPS 9510 running Win11. I have tried re-installing multiple times and nothing seems to work. I have also tried setting my Dedicated GPU to be triggered to be used by DaVinci in Windows Settings.

Specifications:

Model: XPS 15 9510
CPU: i7-11800H
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3050Ti
RAM: 32GB LPDDR4 @3200MHz SODIMM Dual Channel

Looking forward to your support as I want to use Resolve to learn it for my personal projects.

I have attached a resolve log in this post.

Thanks

We need a Windows System Information .NFO file to further assist. Open the Windows System Information app and select its File - Save menu to generate the .NFO file.

On June 2, when you had Resolve 18.6.6 installed, it looks like it opened and closed without crashing. What was the issue you had with 18.6.6 installed?

All your other logs with 16.2.8 and 17.4.6 showed GPU crashing. But that may not be surprising. The June 2 18.6.6 launch was happy with the GPU stuff.

At any rate, I would advise not to mess with the older versions and lets concentrate on getting 18.6.6 to work.

The Intel iGPU driver is causing OpenCL issues. There is a newer 31.0.101.5186, A07 Intel UHD Graphics driver available for your laptop on the Dell Support site. Download and install that, and see if it helps.

If not, send another Resolve log and another NFO file.

Hi Dwaine,

I use Manjaro 24.0 and a few weeks ago I installed DaVini Resolve. But because I couldn't see my videos, I reinstalled it and from then on I couldn't open DaVinici Resolve anymore.

Here are the system information:

Manjaro Linux; Build Kennung: rolling
64-Bit
Distribution Arch Linux
Xfce Version 4.18
GTK-Version 3.24.42
Kernel-Version 6.1.92-1-MANJARO
CPU Intel Core i7-10610U CPU @ 1.80GHz x8
Arbeitsspeicher 15.4 GiB
GPU Mensa Intel UHD Graphics (15,4GiB)

I would be happy if I could get support in this regard.

Kind regards

We only support RHEL/CentOS 7.x and Rocky 8.6.

But I can tell you that Resolve does not support Intel integrated graphics, no matter the distro, and that's why your system is not working with Resolve.

Resolve requires a supported NVIDIA (ideally) or AMD (less ideally) GPU on Linux.

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows Desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open the Windows System Information app and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here. Make sure the links don't require access credentials.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Apparently Resolve has never run on your system? The few log files there are, are all 0 size. So not very helpful.

The NFO errors are also not helpful, but you do have a very old NVIDIA driver installed. So try updating that, and see what happens.

560.70 is the current driver. You want the Studio driver not the Game Ready driver. This should be a link to the proper driver:

https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverR ... 096/en-us/

When you run the driver installer, select the Custom install option and select the Clean Install option.

Re: DaVinci Resolve won't open

hi there,
i have been working on a project for a while now and would occasionally be prompted with "critical error saving project". Id usually choose to "reload current project," but the most recent time i did, Davinci Resolve crashed and couldnt be reopened. Every time I'd attempt to open DR, it would load for a few seconds and then stop. I could see it appear in the task manager and disappear after a few seconds.

I have attempted the following to fix this issue:
Restarting computer
Updating nvidia graphics driver
Running compatibility troubleshooter and running compatibility mode
The TCP port scanner script
Redownloading Davinci 18.6
Downloading older versions of Davinci (18.4, 17)
Running Davinci Resolve as an administrator
Disabling Intel(R) graphics driver

No matter what i tried, it always did the same thing as before. Davinci Resolve has been a fantastic program before this and I'd be disappointed to lose my project or Davinci Resolve altogether.

Your config.dat file is bad.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\gguar\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file.

Now Resolve should start.

It will recreate the config file with the default starting info. If you had any Preferences modifications made, be sure to reapply those after starting.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

That should allow Resolve to start. Regarding you initial "critical error saving project" issue, that's very serious and implies that whereever that project is stored, has a serious issue.

Hello there.
You only have UHD 620 graphics?
I don't think any newer versions or Resolve will run on that.
Perhaps Resolve 14-16.
Uninstall the oen you have now and then download and install 14 and try.

Your system should work. The issue is a crash during the Resolve GPU detect process, caused by an Intel iGPU driver component.

You have an old 2022 Intel iGPU driver installed. Unfortunately, the ASUS driver for your laptop is even older.

I'd recommend you go to the Intel Driver Download site:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... /home.html

And use their automatic tool to download and install a newer Intel iGPU driver.

If that doesn't work, keep that driver installer app. Then use the DDU app to uninstall the current Intel GPU driver. Then run the driver installer that the Intel tool downloaded.

This is a link to a Forum post that describes how to get the DDU app, and how to use it to remove the Intel GPU driver:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=119852&hilit=%2Bddu#p659861

After doing that, run the Intel driver installer that you got from the Intel Auto tool.

If none of this helps, send another Resolve log and NFO file.

Thanks for the NFO file, which many people fail to send. But we also need a Resolve diagnostics log file.

Open a new project, and see if you can access the Resolve Help menu to select the "Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop" menu.

If it crashes even doing that, then use the following method to generate the log file:

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows Desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Looks like it's probably an issue with the AMD GPU driver.

Remove the current AMD GPU driver with the DDU app.

This is a Forum thread that describes how to get and use DDU to uninstall GPU drivers. This thread was in reference to removing an Intel GPU driver. Same process, just select AMD instead of Intel.

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=119852&hilit=%2Bddu#p659861

Then install the AMD 23.8.2 driver, which you download with this link:

https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/whql-am ... -aug31.exe

If that still doesn't help, send another Resolve log, and a new NFO file.

FWIW - I've been using DR 18.6 without issue including as recently as a few hours ago. I shut down my Win 11 computer for lunch. When I came back, DR wouldn't load. I restarted - still no dice.

Then I noticed other programs acting strangely - Windows Explorer wouldn't load. Photoshop loaded but I couldn't open any files...

Long story short, I ran sfc /scannow (System File Checker) and in less than two minutes it scanned the 4TB SSD drive. I rebooted and everything is working normally.

Really grateful since I'm in the middle of a big project and reinstalling Windows - or even messing with log files or graphic drivers - isn't on my list.

@Gustavo: Per the NFO, you have Intel driver 31.0.101.4502 installed, not the newer 31.0.101.5186.

And the Resolve GPU detect process is still crashing due to the current C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OpenCL.dll file.

DaVinci Resolve is using OpenCL for image processing

As the message implies, you need to update your NVIDIA driver which is currently 466.92, to the current driver.

You can find the driver here:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/dr ... ts/232604/

This is the current 561.09 Studio driver. When you run the driver installer, select the Custom install option, and then the Clean install option.

I'd just like to addd that running any Nvidia GPU under OpenCL is very inefficient.
It should always be CUDA.

Your config.dat file is bad. You have a good backup copy.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\rigba\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file.

Right click the config.dat.bak file and select Copy.

Now select the Paste menu. That should make a new file called config.dat - Copy.bak

Rename that file to config.dat

Now Resolve should start.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

Might you have run out of disk space recently? That’s one way a config file goes bad.

Re: DaVinci Resolve won't open

PostSun Oct 27, 2024 11:08 pm

Urgent:

I have been using Davinci resolve from year now.
Two weeks ago I was setting up a server room with a lot of Blackmagic equipment.
In the process I had to install Blackmagic software, capture device, Multiview, hub etc.

After this installation Every single Blackmagic software just stopped working and crush on open without any error or alert.

I don't mind hardware related software not working but just got last minute project to colour grade and since Davinci isn't working I'm pretty much screwed.
Ive got Premiere as a backup but find it hard to work without CST.

Any idea how I can fix this issue, I uninstalled hardware related software updated davinci, udpated GPU drivers, but Davinci just wont open.

Premiere pro works just fine but again its not a tool I use to colour grade.

Can someone please help me out ?

I would guess it’s either a bad config file or a bad video driver.

More information would be helpful. But I'll take a guess that since you mentioned Premiere, you are on Windows. If that's the case, then:

I had the same problem. Resolve would start with a fresh installation or if I restarted my PC. Fixed it - when you exit from Resolve it sometimes leaves a process running. I just went into Task Manager and killed the Resolve process and then it starts fine.

Hello, I was wonder if Dwaine can provide me with some assistant with this issue.
Everything start happen when I upgrade to Davinci Resolve 19.1 (free version). It show the splash screen for a few seconds and goes away.
Troubleshooting that I have done: Updating all the video drivers and windows-uninstalling Davinci resolve from control panel-reinstalling it. uninstalling again with Revo uninstaller- clean installation of the same version after downloading it from Blackmagic site. uninstalling it and Reinstalling previous version 18.6 (version that is current in my system). I notice that in teh read me file mention that Davince resolve free doesn't support SLI configuration, I did remove one of my video cards so SLI was not present in my system. Issue continue. I have tweek my nvidia video driver to the best performance for Davinci Resolve.
Issue persist. BTW all this has happen for about two weeks, today reading other posts I did tried the config.dat file replacement with the config.dat.bak. Issue no resolve. I really don't know what else I can do. No errors in the windows event viewer and nothing that pop my eyes in the davinci resolve logs.
I really will appreciate some assistant in this matter, love this program.

The NFO file implies you might have a display connected to each GTX 1070 card. If that's correct, be sure all displays are connected to the same GPU.

Try this and let us know what happens:

The following process will MOVE your Resolve preferences files to a backup location. This will force Resolve to create a new set of default preferences files when it launches. If this solves the launch issue, that would imply there was some corrupt preferences related file causing the startup issue.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\Jc\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

Rename the Preferences folder to Preferences.old

Now see if Resolve will start.

If it does, it will have all the Resolve preferences set to default values.

Thank you for your time Dwaine,
I corrected the video connection, I did add the second monitor to the same GPU,
Renaming the Preference folder works for little bit, explained; After the renaming Davinci resolve was able to load complete (what at excitement!) I did the quick setup and let me know that version 19.1.2 was available, I downloaded. After working a bit in the app I closed it thinking to install the 19.1.2 but just in case I open it again and ..voila! splash screen shows up for a second and disappear. Well, I proceeded with the complete uninstall of version 18.6 and install 19.1.2. With a surprise, it did not work with the same previous issue.
I did try the renaming of the new preferences folder but this time it did not work, coming back to the same issue, just splash screen and it is gone.
I upload a new set of new logs and files to see if you can bring some light to this. thank you.

I can't tell what's causing the hang.

Here's a shot in the dark: Someone in the past reported that Huion tablet drivers were causing Resolve to hang during launch, even when the tablet was not connected. I couldn't repro that on my Windows system using the same drivers. But it was definitely the issue for this user.

I see you have Huion tablet drivers installed. Might be a good test to remove those and see what happens.

Hello Dwaine,

I'm glad to inform you that finally the issue has been resolved. I have to thank you for all your time trying to assist me to figure out the culprit.

I can inform you that the guilty party was a corrupt .net 3.5 framework, wasn't easy but finally is out of my system.

again, I appreciate all your time.

Dwaine Maggart wrote:OK, I think the issue is that you have Proxies configured on your network settings.

Open the Windows Network and Internet control panel and select Proxy.

Do you have Manual Proxy Setup "Use a proxy server" enabled? If so, that's causing the Resolve startup crash.

My only solution at the moment is to not enable a proxy server. Or, use Resolve 18.6.4.

Hi, Dwaine.

I want to submit report with the same problem.
I have reinstalled it multiple times, reinstall vcredist/NET, and clear the cache and Davinci still won't opening and always stuck at loading screen before it vanished again and again

Here are my logs and pc nfo, hope you or another support can help.

Open the Windows "Add or remove programs" Control Panel, and uninstall the DaVinci Resolve Control Panels app. That should fix the issue.

Dear Dwaine Maggart,

I hope you're doing well. I'm encountering an issue where DaVinci Resolve won’t open on my system. I’ve tried troubleshooting, but I haven’t been able to resolve it.

To help diagnose the problem, I’ve attached the log files. Could you kindly take a look and let me know if there’s anything I can do to fix this? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and support!
