They just about got away with it in the past because of the generally low cost nature of their cameras but anything close to and now beyond £10k ultimately consign the Ursa Cine to the rental stores. Like all BMD cameras it initially get a few firmware updates but later on with cost vs sales you won't see much firmware support for this camera.

This is a boffins camera with much less if any input from consumers. The last time this happen was the Big Ursa and we all know what happen to that one. It will be £7k by year's end if BMD is to recover losses.

I don’t know whether it will be flop or not, but yes Blackmagic after sales service is almost non-existent. That’s where all serious camera manufacturers excel. Some manufacturers even provide you with a backup camera if your camera develops some snag and is away for servicing.
We never minded this almost no repair support from BMD, because most of their cameras are way cheaper than its competitors.
But with this camera things need to change. Otherwise no rental house or a cinematographer will not feel confident.

After-Sale service is non-existant ? How so ?

I had faillure on my URSA G2, got RMA in 10days, another in 10 days, third time it was out of warranty, SDI fried and a good cleaning of the body was needed, and they checked the camera for less than 500euros !

A friend of mine needed some cleaning on his C70 NDS and had a problem with his ON / OFF swich.
Canon asked him 1000euros while he was in the warranty period, and declared it oustide because of dust !

While I don't know how their after sale services is outside of europe (everything went through London in my case) their After sale was top notch ! I can only recommand.

As for having backup-cameras for their high end, at that price it would also make sense that the rental company would have backup, as for production company... it will depends on the policy of blackmagic. But I don't think it can be any worse than a Red DSMC1 & DSMC2.

Yes I have to say, although I have never needed to RMA anything, London BMD have been brilliant. They've actually phoned me right back after I've sent an email, on the few occasions I contacted them, whether within warranty or general support enquiry!

There’s a typo on the BMD Tech Specs webpage for the URSA Cine 12K I believe. The Shooting Resolutions should read
12,288 x 6912 (12K 16:9), not 17:9
12,288 x 6480 (12K 17:9), not 16:9

Right, there seems to be a mix up in their specs. They reversed which was which. Haha. Well, that's an easy mistake to fix.

Any informations on shipping ?

Would have loved to rent it for the 4 July in France, seems unlikely..

BMD, will the showcased clips not be downloadable?
The layout is like they would be but there are no links?

The Making of… is downloadable.
I suppose there are rights involved for the main movie or its sources, so they can't make it downloadable (yet?).

Close to the time of the release of the camera, there should be sample media for download. I suspect that will be around the start of IBC2024 (September 13).

Here’s the FD Times summary of the URSA Cine 12/17 LF cameras which I imagine will be included in their IBC2024 issue this month:

My day job is a colorist, so I'm valuing color as top priority. Having graded Arri, RED, Canon, and Sony footage, the sample footage of the Ursa Cine 12K is closest to the aesthetic I'm looking for, which means I think it is absolutely beautiful. Definitely out of my budget to own, but I am really hoping it will be available to rent for my next short film, which I plan to film in November.

I asked CVP regarding powering the URSA Cine with V-Mount and got a proper answer:

If you ask me... I'd say :

The URSA CINE MINI would be perfect with :

60FPS OG maxed out.
Internal ND / Same mounts as URSA CINE 12K
6K max (8K would cripple to much the ursa cine 12 sales).
No right side screen
CFEXPRESS (two slots)
2x SDI outs + Usb-c for evf / monitor.
No RS / LEMO connection (leave it to the 3rd party rigging).
4 channel audio 2x mini xlr + Stéréo Jack.
Standart V-Mount.
The return of prores with a slight touch of noise reduction.

A biefer PYXIS size / like an URSA MINI S35 but slightly shorter and slightly larger.
