Lens Adapters and Auto Focus

PostTue Sep 03, 2024 4:16 pm

Hi there,

I'm a brand new BMPC 4K user, with limited (but learning) technical understanding. In effort to utilize the Canon lenses we already own, I just picked up the YKEASU Electronic AF Lens Mount Adapter. Right out of the box, I cannot figure out how to engage the auto-focus feature, although it appears this adapter is otherwise compatible with both the camera and our existing lens collection. Did we buy the wrong one, or is this a user error?

My partner and I do work in-studio (on a relatively static set) but also at live events (weddings, etc) so speed is imperative in getting decent footage for this reason. Is the speed booster adapter a requirement for our needs, or is it merely an optional improvement factor?

Do you understand that BM's camera doesn't offer continuous AF? That's why it is are called a 'cinema' camera.
I don't know the adapter you got, while MFT lenses are doing AF on the 4K.
A SpeedBooster is quite a different thing, it'll make your lenses behave like a wider lens on the small sensor. If AF works, which can't always be expected with lenses made for other mounts, it'll not be faster or continuous.

I'm sorry if I may disappoint you, but for the kind of event work you describe, you might have been better off with other cameras, like Sony or Canon.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
