Davinci resolve won't download properly. (Solved)

PostThu Sep 12, 2024 9:10 am

I've been trying for hours and I have no idea why, but Davinci resolve won't download properly. It won't give me a launcher and it only ever tries to download as a VLC file. Why is it doing this and how do I fix it?

Are you downloading from the Support page on the Blackmagic website? Also some browsers can cause download problems. The download will be a Zip file which you will need to unzip before installing.

I have no idea where on their website I'm downloading it from, but I am using the Chrome browser. Whenever I do download it, it says in the name of the file itself that it's a zip but the file type is always a VLC.

Try downloading from here which is Blackmagic's official download page. You should have no problems with using Chrome, which is what I use.

I have been using chrome since the beginning. I went through your link and it's still trying to download as a VLC file.

That sounds like a File Association error on your system. You know how to fix those?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Open Control Panel and click on Default Programs. Then select Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Next click on Set defaults by app. Scroll down the list until you come to VLC. Click on it and then click Manage. Scroll down the list of file types until you come to .zip. It should say Windows Explorer next to it. If it says VLC click on the icon and choose Windows Explorer. You can now exit Control Panel.

I think I got it figured out. I found a Reddit thread after two hours of scouring for a solution where the guy had the same problem. I went into the default app settings through the settings app and found the default app for the zip files. It was set to use VLC for whatever reason. I changed it to File Explorer and it downloaded properly. I have it installed but I'm still not sure my computer can run it so I'll test that tomorrow.

These are the minimum requirements to run Resolve 19.0.1. Though the title says Studio, these apply to the free version as well.

I'm not entirely sure what's on my computer so I guess I'll see.
