Resolve 19 - GPU Configuration Warning

PostThu Aug 22, 2024 1:20 pm

Hi,
Seek your help.
I just upgrade to Resolve 19.
Now I have this GPU Configuration Warning (as per attached), and Resolve cannot start.
Can you please teach me what I need to do, so I can start Resolve 19?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Running into same issue on my windows machine, but with AMD GPU. It's not showing integrated or discrete GPUs in the settings. Then it closes.

Resolve 19 wants a graphics driver that supports CUDA 12.3.
To run 19, you need to update your nVidia graphics driver.
Do not try to use OpenCL with your nVidia card. It does not work well.

With an Nvidia GPU you will need Studio driver 550.58 or newer to run Resolve 19.

Just for your info.

This is what you need to do with the Resolve 19 upgrade. I follow these steps, and it works for me.

Your Youtube Video does not work.

The latest (official) NVidia driver is 545.x for my system. So I'm screwed :D

Fortunately I will update my system this weekend anyway including the latest and greatest video driver. So that will hopefully un-screw me. So, thanks a lot to BMD for the last kick in the butt I needed to finally update my system.

Have a nice weekend

I am running the same version of Linux Mint. When Resolve 19 came out, to work around the driver version problem, I added the proprietary drivers ppa which has newer versions than the Mint repositories.

https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers ... ubuntu/ppa

tl;dr:
Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt update

Not being a Linux user I don't know if it requires the same GPU driver as Windows. For version 19 on Windows the minimum driver requirement for Nvidia GPUs is Studio 550.58 or higher.

While this appears to have been solved, I would also like to note that current "Game Ready" nVidia drivers also work with Resolve 19, although "Studio" drivers are probably better suited for it.

Re: Resolve 19 - GPU Configuration Warning

Does anyone know what paths or environment variable resolve is specifically looking for when trying to find these libraries?

I'm on Debian testing (via makeresolvedeb) and just took the plunge to installing the drivers straight from the NVIDIA sources instead of waiting on 535 (and 19 beta 3) indefinitely. Switched over to wayland too and everything was working great until I opened Resolve and it couldn't find the GPU.

I have a feeling the /usr/local/cuda-12.6/ path might be confusing it, but then again it should at least detect the GPU no?

CUDA_HOME is already set on my machine. nvidia-smi & nccc functioning as expected. What would one be missing for Resolve?

I am still screwed I guess and cannot even install Resolve due to wrong libraries libapr1 libaprutil1 libasound2 libglib2.0-0 libxcb-cursor0 (which can't be installed on Mint 22 or Ubuntu 24). Why must it all be so complicated .. anyway, will have to dig deeper to resolve this problem.

Edit:
I finally managed to install and activate Resolve thanks to makedeb and Christoph Schmid in another thread.

I assume it is the same requirement in Linux. I could not install 545.x on my system, so I made a fresh install of Linux Mint 22 (based on Ubuntu 24) and the 550.x driver from the graphic driver PPA. Unfortunately I can't install it at all due to library problems.

Re: Resolve 19 - GPU Configuration Warning

PostFri Sep 27, 2024 6:09 pm

After updating from Resolve 18 to Resolve 19, I am having similar GPU issues. I have a NVIDIA Quadro P5000 driver version 538.18 (last updated in Jan 2024) which appears to be the latest version. I have no playback on any files for existing projects and keep getting the GPU error message. When I go to preferences and manually select my GPU, there is no drop-down option for CUDA, there is only OpenCL (which is not for NVIDIA). I assume this error is due to not having a GPU driver that is compatible - correct?

Is there a workaround?
Do I need to re-install Resolve 18 until a new driver is released from NVIDIA?

Please help! Thx.

That GPU driver is too old to run Resolve 19. The latest one you need, 550, you will find on nvidia.com. I've checked and it's there.

Charles, Before my initial post, I was using the GeForce Experience App to manage my drivers and the newest 553 version was not showing as available. However, after your reply I went to the Nvidia website directly and did see the 553 version there as you pointed out, and was able to download and install it. I was able to change to CUDA in my preferences and everything seems to be working now at least so far. Thanks for pointing me to the website, I'm not sure why it wasn't showing up in my Geforce Driver app. Regardless, it seems to resolved now, no pun intended.

byteiran.com ? Not trying to be political or anything, but that sounds a bit sketchy. Corrections welcome.
If you are getting errors, maybe not using that repo would be a good idea. The Software Sources application is your friend here.

I have a Radeon 6700 XT.
The repo ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa only has drivers for Nvidia cards. I am not familiar with the Radeon world on Linux, so I am afraid I have no specific advice.

UPDATE: SOLVED!!!
I figured it out with the help of some great resources online. Here are the last few steps and resources I used to get my GPU to be recognized by DaVinci Resolve 19.

wget https://repo.radeon.com/rocm/rocm.gpg.key -O - | \
gpg --dearmor | sudo tee /etc/apt/keyrings/rocm.gpg > /dev/null

echo "deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/rocm.gpg] https://repo.radeon.com/rocm/apt/6.2.4 noble main" \
| sudo tee --append /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rocm.list
echo -e 'Package: *\nPin: release o=repo.radeon.com\nPin-Priority: 600' \
| sudo tee /etc/apt/preferences.d/rocm-pin-600
sudo apt update

sudo apt-get --allow-unauthenticated upgrade

sudo apt install rocm
