Will I face problem with Davinci replay ?

PostThu Oct 10, 2024 8:46 pm

Hi,
considering a workflow with a videohub 40x40 to which cameras and hyperdecks are connected. The cameras are selected and routed to a constellation. Hyperdecks are used to record separate cameras feeds.

Will I have synchronization problems? Should I use mixer return feed ?

they use timecode to sync so if all sources have the same timecode it should be no problem. If not, you can use the timecode in/out on the hyperdecks to get them all the same timecode assuming you have those ports on your model of hyperdeck.

In replay editor manual, BMD ask to chain references inputs, and to connect cameras to hyperdeck (last model). But if cameras have return feeds from the mixer (so reference from mixer) and have their output signals go through a videhub (introducing latency) I wonder how this set can work

A router typically only introduces a few clocks of latency, not milliseconds, but microseconds. A camera iso’d via a router will have less latency than an aux out everytime.

Good Luck

There is always an element of discovery with BMD ;)

Well it's replay, so how much latency is too much to make it unusable?

Unusable? There would need to be so much latency that when you went to set the replay the frames hadn’t arrived yet, whole seconds or hundreds of frames of delay. Intraline and even intraframe latency is invisible. Network, capture, and playout latency will be hundreds if not thousands of times greater than any latency introduced by a router.

Good Luck
