Seeing 'Usage' of clips only for specific/open timelines?

PostThu Oct 17, 2024 1:03 pm

Hi

I use the 'Usage' column in media pool to easily see which clips I've used already. The issue is it is project wide, so it's for all the timelines in my project as far as I can tell

I often just want to see what clips I've used on a specific timeline

is this possible? Or is there another workaround for this

thanks

If you right click on a clip in the media pool you can choose option usage: and it will show you timeline or timelines on which that clip is used.

In the list view on media page you can add column usage as well, but it will only show you how many timelines use it, but if you click on it, it will show you which timeline.

Maybe there is a way to create smart bins with criteria to filter it out as well, but I haven't figured it out yet.

In DaVinci Resolve, one clip can have multiple flags.

Basically, you need to select all the clips from each timeline and add a flag with a color you set for that timeline, then create smart bins with those flag colors as conditions.

Here is a short video:

Flags, I guess that is another way to do it. Yeah. Cool. Thanks.

Thanks I don't see anything when right clicking a clip that says 'Option useage'?

Also when in list view, and clicking on a clip I don't see anything that shows me which timeline. Am I missing something?

Thanks but this doesn't seem like a great workaround. Because I want to be able to browse all my clips which are already in folders, and see if any have been used in the timeline I'm working on. I can't keep adding flags to clips that go on certain timelines, as that will slow me down too much.

It works in edit page and media page.

It won't show timeline, but number in how many timelines its used, and than you can find out which they are if you right click on the clip itself and choose "usage"

Another way is to use color tags or some other method to construct smart bins as suggested by Dorin Godja.

thanks yeah I just found the right clicking on a clip will only show 'Usage' when the clip has been used on an open timeline.

As for the second point, I didn't understand because I already had the usage column open, thats what I've been using

But the issue is, I would like to be able to see if a clip has been used project wide and also on the timeline I am working on. It feels like a pretty basic feature, but I've just found various threads with people complaining about it too, so I guess we just have to wait!

Those are your options. Organize better and make do.
