BMPCC 6k power issue

PostSun Oct 27, 2024 10:11 pm

Hi,

I'm new to Blackmagic cameras. I have two brand new BMPCC6k cameras, both with a Blackmagic battery grip, and entirely powered by Blackmagic batteries. I have barely used them, save for shooting test shots, and I just arrived on location in a remote place to shoot a documentary on them for the first time.

One of the cameras just does not turn on. It has not turned on since I got here. We start shooting tomorrow and I'm worried that one of the cameras has just died for no apparent reason. I think it is an issue with the battery bay.

Here are all the combinations of things I've tried to get it to work, removing all accessories etc.:

- Battery in battery bay, no grip. Switching camera on has no effect.
- 12v power in, no battery in battery bay, no grip. Amber LED is on regardless of whether the camera is switched on or off.
- 12v power on and battery in battery bay, no grip. When switched off, LED is amber. No screen. As soon as camera is switched on, LED shines red for about half a second, then fades out.

I can't work out how to fix this. Please help! :)

Can you test the problematic camera without a lens? Does it turn on then?
What if you remove the battery grip? Does it turn on then?

Did that camera ever work?
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Dumb question too late to help, but when did you fully charge your batteries before the shoot? I’m thinking the battery is discharged and you need to fully charge it while the camera is being powered from the 12VDC connector.
