ATEM SDI Extreme ISO Randomly Stops Recording

PostFri Nov 08, 2024 3:02 pm

Our ATEM SDI Extreme ISO will intermittently stop recording on its own. We are recording to an external NVME drive via the USB-C connection. I have noticed that this happens ONLY when we record via the ATEM software control. I have not noticed this happen when we record by pressing the physical record button on the ATEM. This has happened while leaving the software control application open during the entire production and it also happens when I close software control after starting recording. Most of our productions are 30 minutes and this will happen at different points into recording. We have been using the same recording process for 3-4 years and it used to be 100% reliable. This is a major concern for us if we cannot trust the ATEM to record an entire production. We are currently running ATEM v9.6.2 but this has happened with previous recent versions as well. Has anyone else had this issue?

Any particular reason you're running your ATEM Mini on 9.6.2? The last ATEM Mini uppdate was 9.5.1.

9.6.0, 9.6.1 and 9.6.2 don't list any updates for the ATEM Mini range in the release notes, which is why we've left all our ATEM Minis at 9.5.1. We have zero issues with ISO recording, even for sessions lasting 2-3 hours continuous.

Have you tried rolling back to 9.5.1? Also, what spec and length of USB-C cable are you using and have you tried other SSD's?

We don't have an ATEM Mini, we have an ATEM SDI Extreme ISO. As for the software, we are running the latest version available, 9.6.2, which was released on Sep. 26. I might try going back to 9.5. We are going to try a different SSD to record onto. We have a Samsung T7 which is on the approved list that we will try. The cord we are using is a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C cable. This problem popped up with a previous software version and continued with the latest version. It is odd and frustrating that the same cables and SSD drives that work flawlessly for 3 years now all of a sudden has this problem.

Maybe a hardware issue with the cable and/or SSD? I have found that with the SSD's on my cameras.

Yes, having recording issues since the update. We got a new computer, installed software control, and it asked to update. Upon completion, we can no longer record.
