Playhead jumping to clip beginning in color page

But that has to be with every clip. Each clip must remember the position of the playhead.

Does each clip have its own position of Playhead? So it's not working or I'm doing something wrong.

When I go to the next clip in the locked status, the Playhead returns to the original clip, or jumps to the beginning of the new clip in the unlocked status.

The Playhead, once locked at a position, will come back to that position instantly, as soon as it can, regardless of the selected clip - whether chosen by the user or automatically by DR.
By "as soon as it can," I mean you can press [space] or use JKL (shuttle control) to play the timeline, but once playback is stopped, the Playhead will return to that position.

A positive side effect is that you can have "playhead return" even in the "Color" page.

Yes, this is how it works and it means that the position can only be locked on one clip at a time. I don't see what I would use it for. For comfortable work in the Color page, I would like the DVR to be able to remember the last used position on each clip.

The script I made was to address the fact that the playhead didn't stay where it was when users click on other clip, on top of the currently selected one.
The script can be modified to remember more than one position;

Damn I was just writing a question explaining why this jumping around of the playhead was driving me completely bonkers when I decided to see if other people had questioned it also . Its infuriating and I'm only working on a couple of video tracks. Huge time waster plus it often leaves me confused about where the hell I even am in the timeline. I figured for sure there was a solution but i guess not - even with all the well known Resolve experts on this forum pleading .

Drives me particularly crazy when the shot I want to work on enters with a dissolve and when I click on it it goes to the beginning of the dizzolve thus showing the previous shot . Oy Vey!

Hey I think I just found a solution . Hit the space bar to start playing at the same time or just a little before clicking on the shot you want to choose, then release the space bar. Seems to keep the cursor in place.

Hm, it doesn't work for me in DVR 19.1.4, macOS 15.4.1

I'm on 19.3 and OS 14.7.2 . Shouldn't be any different than you . I just checked again and it works for me. You have to hit the clip in the color page timeline ( the thin blue bars ) not on the thumbnail. Then its just a knack for the timing . You need to click the mouse and the space bar almost at the same time but with the space bar a hair ahead of the mouse. Actually you can hit the space bar well before the mouse click while you're still in the previous shot as long as your head is aligned over the shot you want to go to.

Let me know if that works. I haven't tried while actually working but it doesn't seem like it will be too big a problem . I wish it worked for the thumbnails also but that sounds more complicated as how would resolve know where in the shot you want to go.

I have two issues with clip selection on the color page:
1. Playback or scrubbing auto selects clips
2. Selection jumps to first frame of the clip.

You can disable no. 1 by alt clicking the color timeline track number so it turns red. Thiis also hides it from the clips view, but you can still grade it by selecting it in the color timeline. Selecting a clip still skips to the first frame though.

I use this method when adjusting multiple layers or working with adjustment layers or overlays like logos etc - but its still annoying that selecting a clip in the timeline skips to the first frame.

A simple improvement for the subject of this thread, would be for the alt click to also disable "skip to first frame of the selected clip"



I would actually love to have some of the same track switches from the Edit>Timeline in the Color>Timeline

Maybe something like this mockup, of the color timelines left side:



This would solve a few issues:

- Autoselector: This would enable or disable both auto clip selection as you play back or scrub the timeline and disable the jump to first frame of a clip when selecting it. This will fix most annoyances as you work with multiple layers, especially if you have adjustment layers or graphics on the upper tracks for long durations. When an autoselector is disabled this will mean:
1. When you scrub the timeline on the color page, when the autoselector on a track is disabled the clips on that track are not automatically selected when you scrub or playback.
2. When you select a clip on a that track where Autoselection is disabled the timeline playhead will not jump to the first frame of that clip.

- Padlock: You can now lock a track so you can't adjust the grades on that track. Might not work correctly if it contains grouped clips across to another track as these would still be adjusted on a locked track.

Also, Its a bit weird now that you can disable a track in the color timeline but you can still manually select a clip on that track and adjust that grade without it being visible at all on the output. These is still a lot of the logic that relates to how Resolve used to work without the real edit page - they shouldn't break old workflows and features but sometimes it really seems a bit weird how it works so differently from other software.

Also would be great to be able to goto in and out from the keyboard in the color page

Thank you for your message. I tried it on thumbnails. I think that's the problem. I need to use thumbnails. (Record A/C mode) Time selected, select using the slider below the window.

I know your script can help, but for full functionality, the Blackmagic team is needed.

I understand the desire to be able to work with thumbnails, but I also appreciate that it would probably be a more complex ask from Black Magic. Do other editing systems do that? At least the space bar trick works and has saved a great deal of time and aggravation.

Yes, it does. For example Assimilate Scratch. It remember all last position for all takes. So I am prefer it for dailies colouring.
