Pyxis L-mount manual focus request

PostMon Dec 02, 2024 2:52 pm

Could we get a firmware update which would allow activating linear focus on L-mount lenses? Similar to what Panasonic and Leica are offering on their cameras.
Right now using manual focus on those lenses is impossible as they revert to focus by wire while mounted on the Pyxis.
Cheers!

I agree!! Blackmagic, please allow us to switch to linear. It would be so helpful!

I'll second that! I actually brought this up when the BMCC6k came out and I'm a little disappointed that there has been no firmware to fix this. There is a lot of great photography L-Mount lens out there but until they allow for linear focus it feels pointless to buy into L-Mount lens.

Panasonic has usable video autofocus and they enable it. With Blackmagic having no continuous autofocus, I personally think its even more important they they add it. PLEASE Blackmagic add this functionality!

Don't have experience with this, but I'd do a "+1" for me if this improves focusing with L Mount lenses on the PYXIS. Even though I'd likely buy PL Mount first and foremost. The moment BMD adds continuous autofocus with face tracking into the L Mount Camera Systems, then I'd give it real consideration. However, I do want manual focus to work well when I use it and I'm not a fan of focus by wire. So Linear sounds desirable.

Meanwhile I'm happy with PL Cinema Lenses. And, while Blackmagic doesn't offer great autofocus I'd rather use cinema lenses over still lenses with their cameras. I'd suggest anyone interested get the PL to L Mount Adapter and some PL lenses and enjoy a nice long focus throw.

With Linear focus on L-mount cams one can set the focus to 720 degrees or even higher if that's your thing.

Good Luck

Oh! That's kind of insane overkill. But cool. I'm happy with 270 degrees on my cinema lenses. Most of the time I fit lens motors on them and they work great with wireless focus pulling.

Howard, how do get to be so smart!?

I would have thought it would top out at 360 degrees, but I can see where that could be useful for lenses that are able to focus very close to the subject.

Now the L mount lens with auto focus just like holly useless lens, it can not use as autofocus lens, and also can not use as manufocus lens, there is no any place for them...

How cool would it be to have this interface with L-mount lenses? Panasonic uses a tiny little bar.

Good Luck

Have you guys noticed any improvements to L-mount lenses' manual focus after the last firmware update?

(I'm on a few days shoot and don't want to update my firmware until the project is finished)
