Powering BMCC 6K Full Frame with external device

Hello. Did anybody use SmallRig 3018 NP-F adaptor for powering BMCC 6K Full Frame? It works with my camera exactly for 7 seconds of recording and then camera turns off.

Are you sure that you have connected to 12v out or 7.4v out?
Check if you have one or two output.

You need 12v out.
I had p4k and p6k and I ever used tilta adapter like this to power up them from years.

I not think full frame need so much more energy to drop down a 12v.

Anyway check also the energy draw by manual

I definitely used 12V output.

I checked for you, it draw 25w/h, like pocket6k, I think there is a problem on your battery or on plate.

Your camera should work with this setup.

Do you have a power checker to check the output of plate?

The voltage is ok. But it doesn’t give 3A. That means that it doesn’t give enough power. I will check this device on 4k and 6k

usually bmd cam support from 11 to 20v, but also in the bmcc6k manual they told about 12v power.
may be this adapter not give real 12v out?
i use the tilta version and work fine with pocket4k, 6k which should need same power from manuals.

It's not a voltage issue, but rather a power issue. Power adapters have fewer limitations than battery ones. I use 18V batteries from a screwdriver and connect them directly. When fully charged, they give about 20V, which is in line with the BMD recommendations. The converter the topic starter is talking about is not powerful enough to power the camera.
There is always the option of using specialized batteries for the camera. Functionally, they are the same. The difference is in the appearance and price of the solution. Specialized batteries are 3-4 times more expensive.

I have the same problem with my camera.

I am referring to the BMPCC4K and I have noticed a notable decrease in recording time, with your same setup, since I installed the 8.6 firmware.

I use both, Gmount battery and nfp with adapter and not had problems, but I would like to understand better that concept.

Coming in late, and probably not much help, but I, too, suspect it might be a power issue with the adapter plate (assuming it's not a problem with the NP-F battery you're using). I can't find any specific power figures for the 3018 (a plate that Smallrig call their "Lite" version); the only info I can find is a recommendation to only use one output port at a time.

I've found two other Smallrig NP-F adapter plates - a 3168 and 3168B. The 3168B has three outputs (12V, 7.4V and USB-C - the latter being an input as well as an output, enabling it also to be used as an NP-F battery charger). The 3168B can output to all three ports, if needed, up to 36W. The 3168 seems to be a bridge model between the 3018 and the 3168B - and has a maximum 24W output.

I've been using a 3168B on my BMPCC6kG2 with Smallrig NP-F970 batteries for a couple years and 1-2 hour continuous running has never been an issue.
