Powering the Blackmagic PYXIS with a 14.8V d-tap to 12V lemo

First-time poster here

I just bought the Blackmagic PYXUS 6K and am LOVING it so far. But I'm wondering how to safely power it.

I got the SmallRig V-mount battery plate, and will be attaching all accessories to it. But for powering the PYXIS itself, it seems that the most common solution (via e.g. Amazon) is to use a D-tap to 2-pin Lemo cable. The SmallRig battery plate's D-tap port is 14.8V; the camera's 2-pin Lemo port takes 12V.

I'm not well-versed in these kind of electrical issues. Is it dangerous to provide more voltage to the camera than what the Lemo port specifies? Do I need to instead use one of the battery plate's 12V DC ports? (I was hoping not to, since DC -> 2-pin Lemo is a harder cable to find.)

I'm not sure why BMD didn't just include this in the manual, but on the website BMD lists the acceptable voltage range for the Pyxis as 11-19.5V. Most "12V" devices will have regulators that give you plenty of wiggle room.

Welcome to the BMD forum, Jesse. You’re doing everything correctly so no worries as Alex mentions.

When you’re setting up you options on the Pyxis, it’s probably best to display the battery voltage as detected by the camera on your monitor rather display a percentage of battery power. You want to ensure the battery voltage readout stays well within the 11VDC or higher or the camera will shutdown without any warning.

and besides BP-U batteries are 14.5 volts
so the native battery for the PYXIS is already 14.5 volts

Just make sure that the polarity is correct and that you follow the SDI/power protocol.
