Trying to push a signal through a Blackmagic micro-converter

PostWed Dec 18, 2024 7:16 pm

Hello,

I am trying to feed a camera signal to a monitor but I am not getting anything at all.
It seems like a signel incopatibility but I am not sure how to fix it.

Please, if someone can, show me some light.

I have a Panasonic HC-X1 (no SDI out - Global version not EU - I am in EU)
A Micro Converter HDMI to SDI 3G
A second hand Panasonic BT-LH80WE

According to their specs:

Camera can do:
Recording / Playback Mode
4K 4096x2160 24.00p 100M: Average 100Mbps (VBR)
UHD 3840x2160 59.94p/50.00p 150M: Average 150Mbps (VBR)
UHD 3840x2160 29.97p/25.00p/23.98p 100M: Average 100Mbps (VBR)
FHD 1920x1080 59.94p/50.00p/29.97p/25.00p/23.98p 200M (ALL-Intra)
FHD 1920x1080 59.94p/50.00p 100M: Average 100Mbps (VBR)
FHD 1920x1080 59.94p/50.00p/29.97p/25.00p/23.98p/59.94i/50.00i 50M
PS 1920x1080 59.94p/50.00p: Average 25Mbps (VBR)
PH 1920x1080 59.94i/50.00i/23.98p: Average 21Mbps (VBR)
HA 1920x1080 59.94i/50.00i: Average 17Mbps (VBR)
HE 1440x1080 59.94i/50.00i: Average 5Mbps (VBR)
PM 1280x720 59.94p/50.00p: Average 8Mbps (VBR)
SA 720x480/720x576 59.94i/50.00i (SIDE CROP/LETTERBOX/SQUEEZE)

Monitor can do:
monitor-specs.png
monitor-specs.png (101.19 KiB) Viewed 1420 times

And micro converter can do:

HDMI Video Standards
525i29.97 NTSC, 625i50 PAL
720p50, 720p59.94, 720p60
1080p23.98, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p29.97,
1080p30, 1080p47.95, 1080p48, 1080p50,
1080p59.94, 1080p60, 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 1080i60

I power the micro converter with a V-mount battery (via USB) and the converter lights up. I then connect the HDMI cable and the little light for the signal I suppose also lights up. But the monitor isn't giving me anything at all.

The camera can actually limit the output signal through the HDMI output (I had an issue were the Atem wasn't giving me a signal because the camera was set to 4K but then I limited the HDMI out to 1080p and we got an image).

What can I do to get signal in the monitor. I don't get it, it should work. Shouldn't it?

Thank you in advance.

Not sure. It's a second hand unit that just arrived and I am new to this kind of equipment. I am just finding things out. (I am originally a photographer and I have mentioned before in the forum).

I can't find a way to purchase this either since it's an old monitor that is discontinued.

What should I do?

Edit: Is this a card that should be installed internally? Or an external add-on? The seller from ebay told be that "he doesn't know" if the card is installed. I feel I was scammed. :?

Sorry for the double post.

This is the monitor inside. Is this card missing? There is a spot but I wouldn't be sure.

Thanks.

From what I am seeing, you're trying to "push" a numeric HD/SD-SDI signal into an analogic SD input on your monitor. This won't work at all, thus the black/blank screen/no signal you're getting.
A BNC connector doesn't imply HD-SDI. A BNC connector can serve many different things.

As Roman pointed before you'll need to purchase an additional card and install it in order to input a HD-SDI signal.
I don't know how to install it. But when comparing the add-on optional (and discontinued) card and the PCB inside your monitor, it should fit on the three screws/lock on the middle-top/slightly-on-the-right side.

Good luck !

Rather than spending time and more money on trying to make an outdated-spec monitor work, purchase a Blackmagic Design Video Assist 7" 3G. With this you can also dispense with using a converter, as it has both HDMI and SDI. You'll also gain features not present on the Panasonic, such as SD card recording and a superior native image resolution.
2 x Sony FX9, 2 x Sony FX6, 4 x Ursa Broadcast G2, 3 x Canon CR-N500 PTZeds with MRMC auto-tracking, ATEM CCU, ATEM TV Studio 4K, PixelHue P20, Analog Way ASC32, Dataton Watchout, Reckeen 3D Studio & vMix 4K
