TIME LAPSE TO NOTMAL FILMING BMPCC 4K

PostSat Jan 11, 2025 5:24 pm

I would like to be in time lapse mode until my lead walks into the location, and at that point seamlessly go into normal mode 24 fps. Is this possible without doing a cut away to set up normal mode ?

I don't think so, but it's easy to do in post. Did you try by having HFR activated and pressing it again while filming, with the frame rate set low?
And then, please don't shout in the forum (all caps).
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

My thinking is the same as Uli's.

Do it in post. Speed up the segment before the lead walks in. The Stop Motion effect may help give it that time lapse look.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

If it were up to me ( it isn’t), I would start shooting in normal mode some seconds before your talent comes in frame. Let’s assume time laps is 2 frames per second. In post make a cut every 12 frame or so. Shorten each clip to the first frame, freeze it and change the clip length back to the 12 frames or what ever it was. Near the time the talent gets in frame you can shorten the distance between cuts to get a smoother transition.

Depending on the duration of the time laps you can always start with ‘real’ time laps.

It's even way simpler than I thought. Just cut your clip up in segments of the length of the time lapse frame rate. Select them all and choose 'freeze frame'. That's it (if you edit in DR).
Would be smart to first color grade/ stabilize your clip, before cutting it up.
