URSA Cine Body Power & CFexpress questions

I would like more clarity as to the power requirements for the new URSA Cine 12K body with the Cf Express module. The regular model cannot go over 60fps with regular v-mount batteries and requires 24v.
Does the new Cf Express module require less power? Also, aside from power, are all the frame rates available with the Cf Express module?

Since the body comes without battery plate, I am wondering if I use my old Ursa 4.6K v-mount plate, will I be able to record all the frame rates on CF Express? Do we need CFExpress Type 4.0? Need lots of answers and clarity before I pull the trigger. Thanks

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the CF Express module is new and not included with the Cine 12K LF at $14,995 which does include the 8TB modules with cards. I don’t see anything on the BMD website that describes the new EF Express module other than it is included with the Cine 12K LF Body at $6,995 USD.

Presumably BMD has more webpage updates to add very soon and the Body link only goes to the original Cine 12K LF pages.

We await the update of the compatibility list of approved CF Express card for the Body.

I totally agree, I would love to know what the actual SPECIFIC limitations are of using 14v vs 24v are, as well as if there is any limitations of FPS recording with CFexpress vs the media module.

Power requirements are the same.

When running from 14.4V nominal batteries at the back the front RS and EXT ports will not send power out (but will still function for run stop and serial connection) and you won't be able to go above 60fps. The USB ports still provide power. When running with 28.8V nominal power these restrictions go away.

The only restrictions for CFexpress cards will be the speed of the cards.... they are the limiting factor. We just published two lists on our support site for recommended CFexpress cards. The shorter list is for cards that have passed at the higher data rates of 1.2 GB/s sustained. The larger list is for cards that have passed at the lower data rates of around 840 MB/s sustained.

So you can do those speeds to a single card from those lists. Any other CFexpress cards that aren't on those lists are not recommended.

There IS dual card recording added, and CFexpress card support added in our Camera 9.2.2 update which will go out hopefully on Monday..

The dual card recording effectively doubles your speed and splits the recording across two cards with a .braw and .braw2 file on card an and b respectively with the alternating frames. Worth noting that there are a few bugs to do with the Proxy workflow when shooting in Dual Card mode that still need to be cleaned up in a future update. The RAW files work well but proxy record is a bit complicated for this.

Hope this info helps clear up some questions people have.

Thank you Tim, this is great news about the CFexpress support.

So if a single card passes the test at 1.2GB/s sustained, I suppose the dual card recordings may handle 2.4/GB/s.

Tomorrow I can look at the BMD web calculator and see how that limits the use of CFExpress cards and when the custom 8TB module should be used.

Has the "Angelbird AV PRO MK3 | CFexpress 4.0 Type B" been announced? I don't see them on their website, but I see there on the BM site.

Huge savings, but if you went to 8TB (2 or 3 cards), the higher performing 8TB module from BMD is the better deal, for shooting but perhaps not for offloading.

No limit on the number of cards if you purchase the 1TB versions which might work for some purposes.

What is the correct power supply for use with the URSA Cine 12K?

Both BHPhotovideo and Adorama do not have a power supply listed as an accessory on the page for the camera. For the URSA Cine, both show in the specs that MFR: PSUPPLY-24V250W has a 4 pin XLR connector, like the URSA Mini Pro 12K, etc. uses.

The picture on the BH Photo site shows an 8 pin lemo connector though:

Also, when a B-mount battery is installed on a the Blackmagic Design URSA Cine 12K Digital Cinema Camera does it charge it?
The manual does not say that it does. Do we have to spend another $275 for a dual charger?

There appear to be errors in the listings for the URSA Cine Power Supply PSUPPLY-24V250W at Adorama and BH Photo. This is the correct part number and supply for the URSA Cine and has the necessary 8 pin LEMO connector. It is a 24 Volt supply. Any module with the 4 Pin XLR will be a 12 Volt supply and is used on our other cameras with that connector. Sorry for any confusion and I will report this to the third party resellers for correction. This may take a few days.

It's an 8 pin lemo in. Same as Arri. So all those Arri power accessories many already have will work, block batteries etc. Plus things like Ronin, stabilized heads as well.

While you are at it (with distributors) B&H shows an incorrect photo for the 12K Cine PL-mount. Looks like the URSA Mini Pro PL-mount. They do show the locking EF-mount correctly though.
