Austin Meyer is a documentary filmmaker in his early thirties. For the last year, he’s been uploading a “nuts and bolts” video every Tuesday. Based in California, he’s articulate, and none of his content is “sponsored”.

I need an excuse to post his latest video in this thread. The video is not “about” smartphones. That said, everything that Meyer says applies to smartphone documentary production. He answers questions arising from footage that he posted last week that he shot in Montréal. There’s a lot of good advice here, and hopefully others will check out his series. Note Meyer’s comments about “cinematic” video, which has become a mantra.

* Notwithstanding Meyer’s statement that he uses multiple lavalier mikes on almost every shoot, he’s a strong believer in using a boom as his primary way to capture audio, in particular in interviews. Indeed, he’s made an entire video in which he urges people to use a boomed microphone.
