BMCC 6K - Camera 8.7 Beta features available on 9.2.x?

PostSat Feb 15, 2025 2:55 am

I have a BMCC 6K on the Camera 8.7 beta version of the software. Primarily for the use as webcam (UVC) feature. If I run an "update" from any of the latest official cameras software updates (9.2.2 as of this writing), the BMCC's software gets "downgraded" to 8.3.2.

Does anyone know if BMD is planning on making those 8.6/8.7b features "official"? I can't imagine they would expect their customers to be on some old beta version that is not longer maintained. This camera is not even that old!

Many of us are wondering if a final version of these firmwares will be released or if it will remain a missed opportunity.
I think a lot of BMD resources are focused on new products and it's really been so long since the betas came out that it makes me think that the idea of an official firmware for the BMPCC4/6K will probably be shelved.

It’s a real shame that they release products and forget about them so fast. My company has spent thousands on BM gear but the IOS/Android “camera app” now gets more updates.

The current Pyxis may get one more firmware update then will be forgotten for the next Pyxis camera that will probably be released later this year.

I understand companies need to make money to survive but BM has not been forthcoming on continued support for current products already in the market. It’s all been about “the latest, greatest until next week”

I currently own the original 12k, pocket 4K and 6K FF. Original 7 inch video assist and 7 inch HDR video assist, Previously owned 4.6k Gen 1 and a couple of the original pockets. I also own a sdi to hdmi converter and 4K decklink.

I have supported BM for a very long time. I just don’t see my company investing anymore however. Only releasing firmware updates for the newest cameras and forgetting about real OLD cameras like the 6K FF (it’s very old) is silly.

I’m still hoping they’re going to get to the 6KFF sometime. It’s just too damaging to their brand to put it on mega sale, thus getting lots of new users, and then immediately burn them. Hard to believe they’d do it.

Remember the original Ursa? I wouldn’t be surprised if they forgot about it

I've got a UMP 4.6K G2 and a pocket 4k. Gee, firmware updates would be appreciated ... sigh.

I just updated my BMPCC 4K and it went back to version 8.1, but before it was at 8.6, is there any way to return it to version 8.6? Because I can no longer use it as a webcam, and it is no longer recognized by the firmware update app, I don't know what to do anymore :(

The thing that worked for me was downloading/installing the BM Camera Beta 8.7 and upgrading the camera software.
