if you only had one anamorphic lens...

PostThu Feb 20, 2025 12:19 pm

Since I have never shot on anamorphic lenses, I started thinking about why I would own an opengate camera and not have at least a single anamorphic 2x squeeze lens.

Most of what I shoot are museum documentaries, interviews, and technical demos of museum artifacts. I don't think I would use the anamorphic for interviews or technical demos, but it would be nice to have some options when shooting some outdoor or larger spaces.

So for my only anamorphic on my Pyxis, what is a good compromise if I only own one anamorphic lens? I am looking at the Blazar Cato, 40mm or 50mm? FYI, I have a set of spherical primes and parafocal zooms for my everyday use.

Thanks,
Cheers,
Corey

Corey, if you only want one 2x anamorphic PL prime, take a look at the Orion 65mm T2 under $10K:

i would not get just 1 anamorphic lens. Just using 1 lens limits me too much in most contexts. also i dont think anamorphics make much sense for what you’re trying to do
