Focus breathing on blackmagic camera app?

PostTue Feb 18, 2025 10:53 pm

I was shooting an interview with the blackmagic camera app on my iphone 16 pro max, the problem was that it kept noticeably focus breathing very frequently. It was a very simple scene with no need for focus breathing. Is there a setting on the app or iphone to prevent this? Now that I'm here posting, I imagined the focusing on this app would be pretty basic but is there more to it, like different settings and functions in general?

THANKS!

Did you want to lock the focus or need preset focus points?

It's when my focus is set to full auto it will do a little zoom in and out before establishing focus. Sometimes it does it sometimes not. So it kinda ruins my shot when it randomly decides to do that. It can be when i move the camera or when its still. Any ideas whats going on?

If it's random, there might be a stupid AI interfering. But do I understand you right, do you need to change focus in the scene? Because the meaning of focus 'breathing' is a minor 'zoom' caused by changing focus. But if your issue is actually focus 'hunting', just lock focus (long tap).
No other way than using a fully manual camera and cine lens for perfection.
