Atem Mini Extreme Camera Connections

PostMon Mar 10, 2025 3:50 pm

I volunteer with our church running the live stream and we are ordering new equipment for a new building and will be upgrading our live stream.

The questions is this... We will be installing PTZ Optics 4k cameras, the PTZ optics superjoy camera controller, and looking to use the Mini Extreme switcher. Since this will all be installed and running on our fiber optic network can we for the multiview have the cameras assisgned to the extreme via IP addresses vs actual wired connections or do they also have to be physically connected to the switcher?

We currently use OBS for our streaming software.

Thank you for your support.

Hi Gordon

I would like to clarify some information,

- The ATEM's only receive SDI or HDMI video signals depending on the model and the MULTIVIEW output is also a signal over SDI or HDMI

It may be that you are referring to the NDI signal, which is transmitted by the PTZ cameras through the network connector.

could this be it ??

Following on from the previous answer. If you're wanting to use the NDI|HX3 capability of your PTZeds, all you need to do is put the likes of a ZowieTek 4K NDI decoder/encoder box per camera channel into your ATEM switcher. They have both HDMI and SDI versions to accommodate your switcher connector choice.

Thank you for your replies. I now realize that what I was thinking about would not work and the atem will still need a physical connection from the camera to the switcher so it looks like we will be going with the fiber optic HDMI cables since those can run approx 324 or 328 feet distance and for 3 of the camera that will work. For the 4th camera we will look at another option such as a wireless HDMI transmitter/receivers for a non-PTZ style camera or two.
