New UltraStudio 4K Mini Cannot Configure

New UltraStudio 4K Mini connected to 2025 Mac Studio M3 Ultra via Thunderbolt 4 (and 5) cable. Desktop Video 14.5 installed and "authorized" in the security set up. Coming from 2019 MacPro with Decklink card and no issues. New computer running OS 15.3.2

First, plugging in the UltraStudio get source as SDI 1080i/59.94 in display window. None of the buttons - Menu, Video, Audio seem to work. The dial to the right of the display screen does not work. Desktop Video 14.5 does not recognize any attached devices.

Any ideas?

First thing I would check in such situation is Thunderbolt 3 cable. Is it really Thunderbolt 3 or just some generic high speed USB-C cable?

I just checked my UltaStudio 4K Mini connected to M1 Ultra - if I disconnect Thunderbolt cable, device still shows video format on the display but buttons stop working, so you most likely currently don't have Thunderbolt connection for a start.

Used new Apple Thunderbolt 5 cable after trying a generic TB cable that was sitting around. Does mot recognize the device.

Do you have any other thunderbolt device or any other thunderbolt computer to cross-check everything?

I am still on Sonoma so I can't help with new OS peculiarities.

What happens if you launch Blackmagic Media Express and play a known video file of (say) 23.98fps and 1080 or 2160 resolution? If Media Express can see the box, it should play correctly. I've never touched the settings on the box itself -- I always allowed the application (Resolve or ME) to control it.

Does not recognize device on M1 MacBook Pro either.

So need to call BMD tech support.

Does System Report recognise an unknown Thunderbolt device under the Thunderbolt/USB4 section?

System report shows UltraStudio connected to TB port.

So it is not the device. Obviously something with the BMD software.

Thanks for that idea to check the bus.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling Desktop video software. Maybe something went wrong during installation.

Answer from BMD support was to uninstall 14.5 and look for any vestiges of BMD rviers (there were none). Then restart an install 14.3. Reinstalled 14.3 and got firmware update message. Good sign that it recognized the US. Updated and then authorized security (there were extensions to enable). Restarted. Now it recognizes the UltraStudio and outputs via Thunderbolt. So the issue is quite possibly 14.5 and definitely the wonky security in Sequoia.

This Problem came with to me with Ultra Studio 4K Mini.dmg
Tried to get it working on a Mac Mini M4 and a MacBook Pro M4. Was not able to get it to work with 14.4 or 12.8dmg

I hooked it up to an iMac 2019 Intel and got a message that the device needed an update and that I should not unplug it during the update. After that, everything was working fine on the Intel Mac.
Now back to the M4 MacBook and M4 Mac Mini: No way, nothing is working.
BMD, please fix this.

Found a soluotion for me:

BMD gave me the fix-- uninstall 14.5 and install 14.3. Works fine and no problem with configuring the security settings.

I blame Apple for these security & permissions problems.
