Are We just abandoning the Pocket line Firmware?

PostTue Apr 01, 2025 6:22 pm

I have been running the BETA's of 8.6 (BMPCC 6kpro) and 8.7 (BM Cinema Camera 6k) for over a year now. Why am I running a BETA? Because the long overdue feature of being able to view and delete clips ON CAMERA is incredibly important. BM support. Please Read this. Please lock in the Firmware and give us the ability to choose or squeeze factor independent of the resolution on the cinema camera 6k like the PYXIS. They are the same sensor... I am not sure why this is an issue. I am very grateful for all your work and products, but seeing camera updates rolling out all the way to 9.3.1 with no mention of the camera I bought just last year... It is very frustrating.

Thank you

We thought we would give BMD time to get the firmware right to get it past beta, we never expected what look like they abandoned what they promised

Gap of time between v8.1 (23-04-17) and v8.6beta (24-03-28): 346 days
New cameras announced in that time: 3
Studio Camera 4K Plus G2
Cinema Camera 6K
Micro Studio Camera 4K G2

Gap of time between v8.6beta (24-03-28) and today (25-04-01): 369 days
New cameras announced in that time: 4
PYXIS 6K
URSA Cine 12K LF
URSA Cine 17K 65
URSA Cine Immersive

I want a stable version of the features that came with v8.6b/8.7b but given what they've been doing in the camera division over the last year I'm not surprised we haven't seen any traction yet. Saying that the Pocket firmware has been abandoned might be a stretch, IMO. Still frustrating of course...

That is also why I lost interest investing in the Cine 12k LF or future BMD cameras for that matters, potentially just another camera being abandoned. RED just released a new firmware for its 5 year old Komodo to improve its functionality and reduced the price at the same time, that what I call support.

Kind my feeling now.
I have a pyxis for like 7month and now a 12K sensor in a Pyxis body will drop and will make my purchase it worth like 1000$ on the used market in less than a year.
6K FF is abandonned as well with firmware for anamorphic never applied

Had a URSA G2 that never got a GEN5 color science ever.

I have great things to say about blackmagic camera, and loved them dearly, but I'm feeling kinda burned to be honest.

They did the same thing with the Video Assist. Seems to be a common theme.

let's see if something drops tomorrow at the announcement.
Mk 6kFF/Pyxis 6k still gets me work and have been utilized since they came out. Their value is based on how I'm using it for work, and while, yes, they are going to lose used market value, it doesn't make them a worse camera. I'm happy with mine.

BUT, let's hope there's one more offering for the Pocket line, like a TRUE Pocket Camera again!

That feature's implementation (adding extra files to the media) is what will keep me stuck at firmware 7.9.1. :(

If it ever comes out of Beta, I wish it would be optional.

I saw mention of Public Beta 9.5 but did GP say what was gonna be in 9.4? Wondering if they’re actually gonna finish the features from the 8.6/8.7 beta.

Blackmagic betas don't work like that.

Beta 9.4 could be for just one camera, but it could be beta 9.5 for another camera.

Sounds like 9.5 will contain what was in the previous 8.x beta at least for the BMCC6K.

Still not clear for the 4K.

I admit I was wrong. Never thought an update would come. Never thought autofocus be possible.
Thank you BM!
