Why does the BMCC6K still lack Pyxis's 16:9 crops?

PostFri Apr 04, 2025 7:28 pm

Both cameras use the same sensor but Pyxis 6K has additional 6K and 4K 16:9 crops. Obviously, it would be ideal if Ursa style crop selection and image circle-based crops were added for both cameras but I figured the BMCC6K would at least be brought to parity with the Pyxis because I thought BMD said they're supposed to share all the same shooting modes.

The two cameras even share the same entry in the Blackmagic Camera Readout Speeds thread but those two crops aren't even mentioned.

I have been asking this question since the release of the Pyxis, I'm hoping that the AF firmware update includes this as well.

Since the Pyxis and other camera's release the older cameras have received no love from BM in-terms of official firmware releases. The beta firmware breaks my card reader on the 6KFF :( which has been addressed.
