SRT Captions Formatting - Background Size / Placement Issue

PostFri May 03, 2024 1:08 pm

Hi all,

I don't know if this is a DR19 bug or just a Resolve bug in general, but I've noticed that the captions formatting has some issues when cycling between different fonts. In particular, the background size and placement. I'm looking to create a basic subtitle with a black bar centered behind the text. Nothing crazy.

Some fonts look perfect, others have the black bar offset either too high or too low, some result in the black bar behind huge. For the font I need to use for this client, it offsets the bar too high and I cannot center it behind the text.

Video showing issue:

I've noticed that this issue does not happen if I were to manually create a caption using the Text+ option.

Hi,

I just had the same issue and eventually fixed it with a work around:

I added a subtitle region to the track and duplicated the subtitles. Then I deactivated the (misplaced) background for the top region and changed the font color of the bottom region to the color of the background. That way the bottom region only contains a solid bar that can be adjusted in height, width and position but still adapts automatically to the line length.

Hope that helps anyone running into the same problem, but I still hope for adjustable background settings in the track style with a following update.

Having the same bug, too. Nothing imported, straight out of DR19. This needs to be fixed, please. I need a specific font with a specific box behind the subtitles for a client and the box is too low. Plus, the Ü dots are cut off (there is still a box above it, just the letter's dots are cut in half).

If you are in a pinch and its an emergency...

Until they fix it, possibly third party workarounds might involve using third party scripts that are out there, which can convert subtitles to text+ and that can be styled. You could use subtitle edit free open source windows program, that can export hard-coded subtitles as images and that can be used. And I don't know if any changes have been made in Resolve 20 beta 1 that might help.

Natively, I though override sizing option would work, but its not changing dynamically to fit the text. So its manual process and that is not an option for subtitles. The only native workaround that I was able to find in a pinch was to make subtitle regions, essentially layered subtitles in a same subtitle track. One for box and one for text and reposition them manually.

If Resolve 20 doesn't, Blackmagic should address it for differnt fonts, especially with special characters.
