Urgent Help Needed - Capture Card Not Working Windows 11

PostTue Apr 15, 2025 8:35 am

I am mid-way through a sports livestreaming event and need urgent support.

Blackmagic Design DeckLink 8K Pro G2 Capture Card
ASUS ProArt X870E-CREATOR WIFI AM5 ATX Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 12 Core AM5 4.4 GHz
Predator Hermes 64GB (32GBx2) DDR5 RGB 6400MHz
Windows 11 fully up to date

Yesterday:
Windows 11 PC running V14.0 Blackmagic desktop video drivers works perfectly fine

Today:
Capture card is not detected.

- Exact same PC does not "see" the capture card in vMix streaming software or Blackmagic video desktop video 14.0
- Capture card appears inside BIOS and is recognised in device manager
- Any attempt to uninstall or reinstall V12, V14 or V14.50 drivers fails - they all freeze at some point in the installer window.

I have tried:
- Removing drivers via device manager and reinstall with new download
- Remove capture card from PCI lane & uninstall/reinstall software with the capture card not physically installed
- Put capture card in different slot and uninstall/reinstall software
- Sometimes when installing the drivers, Windows will show a popup along the lines of "we couldn't verify the digital signature, are you sure you wish to install this?"

Update: Resolved

I wiped Windows 11 and reinstalled a fresh operating system, to get rid of any corrupt drivers in the OS.

I managed to phone Blackmagic support, who asked me to remove the card from the PCI slot, and plug a USB cable in to the recovery port on the board.

Once plugged in to the recovery port, Blackmagic Video software recognised the card and initiated a firmware recovery on the card.

Between the firmware recovery on the card, and a fresh install of Windows 11, the card now works normally.

Try the latest drivers. Might help out more.

Hi John

Quick Tip (if you want to test it)

- Uninstall your current Desktop Video

- Restart the computer

-Download and install Desktop Video version 12.9

- Restart the computer.

- Check it.

IMPORTANT:
check it out the PCI-E Bifurcation setting inside BIOS, the motherboard can set in X8 + X8 or Auto to allow (x8 for GPU + x8 for second SLOT PCI-E.

The mobo specs "says":

AMD Ryzen™ 9000 & 7000 Series Desktop Processors*
2 x PCIe 5.0 x16 slots with Q-Release Slim (supports x16 or x8/x8** or x8/x4/x4 modes***)

I’ll give that a try. It sounds like a solid plan to roll back to version 12.9 and see if that helps. I appreciate the heads-up about the PCI-E bifurcation setting as well, I'll check that in the BIOS.

Hopefully, that will resolve the detection issue so I can get back to the livestream. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes!

If something changed is windows and not a driver, check a restore point of windows to go back.
May be the Computer internet connected?
Unfortunately today win 11 not need to be restarted to change main part of Os, that mean if Ms decide to change win11, they do without asking anything.
