Speed Editor Manual

PostWed Jul 03, 2024 9:43 pm

So frustrated with this purchase.

My Speed Editor arrived today. Apparently the Davinci User Manual has a section in it for the Speed Editor. However I cant tell which section that is by looking at the table of contents. Every response Ive read on this forum for the many other people in the same situation as im in has give the page number or chapter number for older versions. For instance Version 18.5 is Chapter 47 and Page 947. The manual I donwloaded only has 17 chapters! And its 4203 pages long! Searching the document also is futile as it returns every instance of the word "Speed" even if I ask for "Speed Editor".

Sending messages to Blackmagic seems to have no results. its like the emails go into a void.

any help would be appreciated. I would like to use this device without having to guess every single thing about it.

Thanks

This is the current 18.6 Resolve Reference manual, from the BMD website DaVinci Resolve area of the Support page:

https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/ ... 2368010000

Page 956 starts chapter 49, describing the Speed Editor and Editing Keyboard.

You mention your manual has 17 chapters. The manual contents page lists 17 sections. There are multiple chapters per section. Chapter 49 is in section 6: Editing Effects and Transitions

Thanks for your response. I finally found the section by searching for "speed" and then pressing enter many many many times, and visually looking at the surrounding text until I found it.

Whats the point of having a table of contents if it doesn't list the chapters? I know this forum is not the place to make requests, but holy crap! I can't understand how a professional company like this can put out a document and their table of contents is not a functional item.

The purchase of the Speed Editor has given me a new perspective on Blackmagic. For years I have raved about Davinci Resolve to any friend who wanted to do some video editing. But receiving this item today I have wasted so much time trying to learn about the product, and Blackmagic, seemingly intentionally, makes it difficult. I've bought it, and i'm going to use it, but I will never recommend this product to anyone.

Thanks again for your response. I hope I don't need to post about the Speed Editor ever again.

A while back I made this chart for the Speed Editor.

Here is a Speed Editor Keyboard Map to make it easier to see what all of the keys do. I included a "Notes" section to cover either unusual results or bugs in the keyboard.

I appreciate you sharing this keyboard map, however, Box wants me to login - would it be possible to share the map via some other service that does not require login? I totally understand if you don't have time for this request. Cheers.

Edit - I discovered that the issue was with my Box app on iPad - solved that and now it works. Great cheat sheet - many thanks!

This section seems to be missing from the Davinci Resolve Studio 19.1 manual. I extracted relevant pages from the 18.1 manual and saved them as a separate file, just in case.

All panel descriptions have been removed from the Resolve 19 manual.

The goal is to have a separate manual for each panel.

We currently have done that for the new Micro Color panel, the Advanced Panels and the Replay Editor panel.

Hopefully the Speed Editor and Mini panel docs will happen soon.

Until then, the details can be found in the DaVinci Resolve 18.6 manual, which is still available in the Support site:

That's a good Idea. I remember asking for that when I started with resolve on V16....

If anyone needs it, I've extracted just the Speed Editor and Editor Keyboard pages from the DR User Manual and made them available for download via my Dropbox account. Here's the download link: https://tinyurl.com/SpeedEditorManual
