BUG - render in place with EXRs

PostThu Apr 17, 2025 8:05 pm

I believe there is a bug when trying to create proxies from rendered in place items on the timeline. I get an "proxy media failed" dialogue box. What my best guess is, the exr image sequences keep the ".exr" in the file extension, so the render in place files have ".....exr.rendered.mov" and the proxy generator doesn't know how to parse the to extensions in the file name.

Would be really nice to be able to create proxies of heavy compositions/fusion comps that have been rendered in place.

Render exr sequance form fusion using saver tool Choose quality you like. Loader tool also supports proxies. If you branch out, you can render both final and proxy at the same time.

Proxies and RiP's serve the same purpose. It's...weird trying to do both.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

@KrunoSmithy I'll give this a try. Not idea, but does seem like a viable workaround.

@Jim Simon, I would disagree. When RiP can scale all the way up to 32bit EXR files, that is not the same as a proxy. RiP is to create a prerendered clip that otherwise would not play back in reel time on an editing timeline. A proxy is a designated lowres render of any thing on the timeline that's lightweight on editing, file size, and it's upload ability.

So again, there is a bug with RiP with EXRs. I can create a RiP of non EXR image sequences, and then make a proxy of that clip, but when doing the same with EXR image sequences, Resolve errors.

That is exactly the purpose of a proxy as well. ;)

Since you already have real time playback with the RiP, the proxy seems superfluous.
