Unable to activate DaVinci Resolve on MacBook Pro M4 MAX

PostSat Apr 19, 2025 5:15 pm

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a very frustrating issue and I’m hoping someone here might be able to help or offer a new idea.

I recently purchased a license for DaVinci Resolve Studio, but I haven’t been able to activate it on my brand new MacBook Pro M4 Max (macOS Sequoia 15.4.1). Every time I enter the activation code, I get the same error:
“There was an error with the activation. Please contact Blackmagic Design support and provide the following error code.”

Here’s everything I’ve already tried, with no success:

Verified that the license works: I installed Resolve Studio on a Windows computer using the same Wi-Fi and it activated immediately. So the code and server seem fine.
Updated macOS to 15.4.1 (Sequoia)
Disabled macOS firewall
Tried using mobile data (personal hotspot)
Installed a VPN (Proton VPN) and tested activation from servers in the US and Europe
Checked for proxies, profiles, and MDM restrictions – nothing unusual found
Created a new admin user on the system and tried activating there
Ensured that there are no antivirus/security apps running (ran a terminal check for known names)
Tried manual DNS servers (like 8.8.8.8) and checked connection to licensing.blackmagicdesign.com via terminal (returned 404, but that's normal for that endpoint)
Ran CaptureLogs.app and submitted the .tgz and .spx reports to support
Contacted Blackmagic Support multiple times – they confirm the code is fine and servers are up
Checked for any unusual permissions or blocked network traffic
Uninstalled and reinstalled Resolve several times
I’m now stuck. Support keeps insisting the issue must be on my side, but I can’t identify any reason why activation would work on Windows and not on my Mac.

Here are my specs:

MacBook Pro 14” – M4 Max chip – 2024
macOS Sequoia 15.4.1
32 GB RAM – 1 TB SSD
Has anyone experienced something similar or can think of anything else I might try?
At this point I’m honestly desperate – I paid over $300 for software I can’t even use.

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas you can share.

Lucas,

We are experiencing the same difficulty with the same machine in our shop.
Were you able to solve the issue?
We are currently flummoxed.

Sincerely,

Whit
