Keyboard Shortcuts Stop Working in Full Screen Viewer Mode

PostTue Apr 15, 2025 9:57 am

Hi everyone,

I wanted to report a bug I’ve encountered in the Beta 1 version of DaVinci Resolve 20 on Mac Sequoia 15.4 (Macbook Pro connected with an external monitor)

When working with Dual Screen mode enabled and Full Screen Timeline view turned on, the keyboard shortcuts stop responding after switching to Cinema Viewer on the secondary display. Once this happens, no shortcuts work at all until I exit full screen and return to the standard interface mode.

It seems like the focus is lost when the viewer goes full screen, and Resolve no longer recognizes keyboard input. Hopefully, it’s something that can be addressed in the next beta update.

Thanks!

This is nothing new. It's a known limitation with the Cinema Viewer that goes back a long time.

Interesting—I had never noticed this in the previous version. Unfortunately, I can't uninstall the beta to go back to 19, but in any case, I think this is definitely an issue worth fixing.

Being able to toggle from the Cinema Viewer back to the Bins screen keeping the keyboard shortcuts is useful when I need to preview the edit in full screen without giving up the multi-monitor layout for my tool panels.

It’s designed to forward keystrokes to the panel that was active when you went full screen. Unfortunately that means you can’t access any other panels once you’re full screen.

The forwarding seems to be selective though - as in they seem to have to enumerate specifically what events get forwarded, and this has caused missing functionality.

Plus there does seem to be some issue that breaks the forwarding.

There’s a simpler and much more bulletproof way to do this but it would require a bit of a rework. I described it in another thread but so far no response from BMD. Which is normal as their only typical response is to make the feature. There’s no feedback as to if or when such a thing might occur.
