render timeline resolution in export page

PostSat Apr 19, 2025 5:51 pm

19.1.4 - render at timeline resolution does not work properly (I'm exporting prores 444XQ on a window machine)

timeline is setup for 4096x2304 - output scaling for 1920x1080 --> I'm expecting to get a 4096x2304 file instead I'm getting 1920x1080....

What is the output sizing. In the Timeline Settings tab for example?

I think timeline resolution for delivery refers to the output resolution, actually, not the timeline resolution (in terms of the way Resolve describes its project or timeline settings). The timeline resolution is more of a working resolution space but the actual output resolution is the thing that affect composition and delivery. I could be mistaken but this way of looking at it seems to be consistent with the observed behaviour.

that does not make sense: you set a timeline resolution, and you ask to render at "timeline resolution" that is the resolution I want to render, not the video monitoring gone....

I agree that it's confusing but no one mentioned video monitoring - the output resolution of the timeline settings is the resolution of the timeline pushed downstream to the deliver page. The fact that they are often set to the same by a checkbox on the timeline output resolution page (of the timeline settings) is why this distinction is often overlooked.

Honestly, Walter, I'm not at my machine right now and so I may have confused some of the terminology used by BMD. If I get a chance, I'll drop some screen captures in this thread to illustrate what I'm trying to say. Cheers.

I'm seeing the same as Walter in the 20 Beta.

From a logical standpoint, I would expect it to work as Walter describes. I wonder if from a technology standpoint, BMD could make that happen. (Or if there are legitimate reasons they can't.)

the thing is, I remember it working correctly and being broken now (19.1.4)……

But I can be mistaken…

Weird...
Here on 19.1.4 as well, it works as expected, and anyway you can see the TL resolution greyed out in the video deliver tab in Resolution.
Walter, what do you read in this Resolution menu, in the deliver page ? Isn't it the same as what you had set in Project settings > master settings > TL resolution ?

I can be mistaken - sorry but I still haven't grabbed my workstation to try this. Seems like life is getting in the way, lol.

I think a few screenshots of the Deliver page and Project settings would clear everything up :)

I was answering on another sizing thread and found in manual explanation that can be easily seen in practice when using the mentioned settings.

Yes - this is what I was saying (actually, it only infers it from the point about 'Use timeline settings for output scaling' checkbox). The whole bit about choosing a different resolution refers to the delivery page and simply confuses the issue as yet another override to the timeline resolution setting.

You can see in dimmed text the interpreted output resolution on the delivery page as well so there's no surprise - when set to 'Timeline Resolution' on the delivery page, you can see the output resolution beneath it.

I also finally got around to testing this in v20 and it works as I stated. The 'timeline resolution' in terms of the delivery page is the timeline output resolution (from the output tab under timeline settings).

Also:

Are you saying that it worked in earlier versions of v19 the way you expected? That could have been a bug then. This option to export with timeline resolution is relatively new - maybe it was buggy at the start?

I might have mistaken how the box interprets the setting, in my brain timelines resolution is timeline resolution regardless of the checkbox in the “match timeline settings”

I think it should override any setting and use the timeline resolution….

Meh.. moving along…
