Keyframe Editor Issues & Suggestions

PostTue Apr 22, 2025 1:29 pm

Here are a few ideas to help make the shiny new keyframe editor the happiest place.
I've also listed a few issues.

Floating window is not resizable.

Bezier handle modifier keys for lock 0°, 90 °,180°, and 270°.
-The modifier for author lock at current horizontal position is great if we’ve move it up from 0 to say +5° then the Bezier will accidentally give a bump in the wrong direction.

Add Keyframe shortcut fails in both keyframe window and timeline.

Add keyframe shortcut should also add to selected parameter.

Vertical zoom in keyframe curves please.

Next keyframe & Previous Keyframe shortcuts fail to locate Retime keyframes.

Next Keyframe & Previous Keyframe shortcuts fail to locate if last keyframe is on last frame of timeline clip.
-may consider the TCI as one frame wide ||.
-or the out frame of the TCI as the second last frame instead of the last frame as the last visual frame is in fact the start of the following clip.

Retime Speed Keyframe Parameter in Keyframe Curves not the same as in the inspector. -one is speed x the other is %

Please add an "Add Keyframe" button to Keyframe Curves when docked.
-the alt+click add keyframe modifier may not be obvious for new users.
-switching to a tool is many clicks
-switching parameters is also many clicks.

Hand tool for Parameters window.

Horizontal mouse zoom & scroll for Parameters window.
-aka timeline behaviour.

Elastic Keyframes” button please. aka Avid MC where the keyframes are pinned elastic to the timeline clip duration instead of absolute source media tc.
-it can be selectable on the parameters window.
-This will keep keyframes relative to the timeline clip when clip boundaries are edited in the timeline.
-This will also fix the issue of keyframes being in the wrong position relative to the media after speed change.
-This will fix the issue of changing a clip on the timeline‘s duration and having to move all the keyframes relative to the clip length. EG, if I keyframe a fade out with a defocus and change the clip length I then must move all the keyframes different amounts instead of just having "elastic keyframes" selected.
-This will save tones of clicks.

(Premier pro has elastic keyframes too but is poorly executed Avid MC’s implementation is great)

Keyframes in wrong position after speed change. (elastic keyframes are fantastic please)

In floating keyframe window please make a menu option for “solo Parameters”
-constantly clicking Keyframe Curve switches is wasting clicks. This could also work when selecting parameters in the bottom on the timeline and have the keyframe curve update to show corresponding keyframes.

Keyframe Curve switches click and drag across them to enable/disable with one click & drag instead of many clicks.

Keyframe curve switches modifier toggle click if multiple parameters are selected.

Double clicking a keyframe parameter in timeline should open the corresponding parameter in the curve editor.
-similar to "solo" feature as before.

"Retime Frame" live update please.
-If we move the Retime Frame keyframe only discovering the frame we landed on after we’ve move the keyframe its a guessing game and may be a click waster.
-If the clip length on the timeline changes the clip retime frame positions should have an elastic keyframe option to be pinned elastic to the clip length instead of the media.
-This ensures the frames selected are consistent even when the timeline clip length is edited.
-there could be a "disable" system option for lower performance computers.

Mouse-wheel Zoom in Curves
-control horizontal with vert + horizontal with modifier key maybe.

Zoom to selection with rectangle Marquee of the selection tool.

Standard program window zoom-out shortcut behaviour.

Modifier for desensitizing the mouse when both moving Bezier handles and keyframes. AKA inverse of Colour Wheels shift modifier. Along with 90° author modifier. Or just the exact colour wheels mouse behaviour.
- will be a supper smooth addition.

In the Timeline Parameter View an option to select easing and a method of visually indicating the easing of parameters ie Bezier enabled or linear
-just the two keyframe icon types would be great.
-if we need more detail, we can always open the keyframe curves display

Super time saver please - User option to disable “Crate keyframes on parameter change”
-this should make the change to the nearest keyframe
-this will avoid accidentally creating keyframes on adjacent frames.
-will allow for keyframes to be adjusted on frames other than where the TCI is eg: say there is a fade up transition at the start of the clip and we want a keyframe at the start of the clip but can’t see the frame when parked on the keyframe, parking the TCI after the fade up and adjusting the clip solves this issue for eg.
-save tones of clicks, copy’s, pasts and deletes, and finding the and aligning jumps.

Align selected Keyframes button.
Align keyframes closed to TCI when no keyframes are selected same button.
