DaVinci Resolve specs for Linux are higher than on Windows?

PostTue Apr 22, 2025 2:34 pm

Hello everyone. :)

A question troubles me, about the technical specs needed to run DaVinci Resolve (version 19 or 20).

First of all, I find them hard to find, but most sources matches these ones (apparently I'm not allowed to post URLS).

It states the following about the RAM:
  • Windows: minimum 16 GB
  • Linux: minimum 32 GB

Why does the Linux version needs twice the RAM as the Windows version does (assuming they're both the "minimal" RAM needed)?
I believe there is some level of flexibility, isn't it?

Thank you in advance for helping clarifying this for me.

From the Read More document for Resolve 20 at https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/readme/b2ed24d7ddaf4ed9a639be3a63e7f484

Minimum system requirements for Mac OS
8 GB of system memory or 16 GB when using Fusion.

Minimum system requirements for Windows
16 GB of system memory or 32 GB when using Fusion.

Minimum system requirements for Windows for Arm
16 GB of system memory or 32 GB for 4K or when using Fusion.

Minimum system requirements for Linux
32 GB of system memory.

Looks like it depends on Fusion. Maybe they just figure the Linux users are going to use Fusion because that is how they are. Other than that, I have no idea.
