Default Location For Cache Files Refuse To Change!

PostSat Apr 19, 2025 10:22 pm

In the Project Settings I tried many times changing the location of the Cache files and saving the changes as the default. But as soon as I close the project and reopen it, the Cache files location reset to as before!

Here is the new location:

And I saved the settings as the default:

But if I close the project and re-open it, the Cache files location return to the old default:

BTW, this do not happen if I change Project media location and Proxy generation location .. only happens when changing Cache files location.

Any idea what is going on?

If I`m not mistaken, you have to set up the volume on which the cache and gallery live, as the first volume in the Preferences under Media Storage Locations.

Davinci Resolve Studio 20.0 Build 49
Windows 10 Pro 22H2
Davinci Resolve Studio 19.1.4 Build 11
Linux Ubuntu Studio 24.04 (Rocky 8.6 Container)

Is that a comma character in your path for cached files location? Also in proxy generation location? Is that just some contraction of a much longer path that won't fit in the box?

I'm not sure why you can't change these options for the current project even if you have media storage setup with the correct default location, very odd unless it is a malformed path.

You are absolutely right .. after I changed the path in the Preferences, everything is fine now:

Thank you Christoph for pointing this out ..

I don't understand what is the point of setting the path in Project Settings if it will be overridden by the path in Preferences ! I am confused!

Yes that was a comma by mistake but it wasn't the cause of the problem .. the problem was related to the setting in Preferences as Christoph pointed out.

The Preferences setting is the default. When you open Resolve, without regard to any projects, that location will be 'used'.

The Project Settings will override the Preference for that project.

But in my case, the Preference override the Project Settings that is why I am still confused!

OK.

Why do you think that? Just because the folder was created? Or was the Cache actually going into that wrong location?

Both .. the folder got created and the cache went there.

Indeed .. maybe a bug in Resolve 20b?

The preferences and the project settings work together not separately. The project setting is to select folders (not drives) that are used on the drive(s) that have been set up in the System settings. This can be overridden using the project setting but defaults to the system setting on each restart. Adding each drive required for the cache location to the Media Storage Volume preferences should solve the issue.
