Action Camera MP4

PostSun Jan 28, 2024 12:17 pm

1st post Newbie::::

Davinci Resolve - 18.1 Build 16
Windows 11 Pro N

I uploaded an MP4 file from an action camera into a new project and a new timeline.

Confirmed the MP4 file plays "both video and audio" with the VLC media player before uploading to Davinci Resolve.

The video plays in Davinci with no problem but...

The audio does not play in the timeline of Davince in the "Edit or Fairlight" tabs.
No audio meters are showing any green.

Bring in other music audio files to the same project and timeline and the NO problem with the MP3 or WAV file to be heard in the computer speakers and meters are lit up like a Christmas tree.

Preferences in Davinci Resolve show in IO Engine as: System Audio
The same GUI: both the Input Device and Output Device are set to "Use System Settings" the same as when playing the original MP4 file in a VLC player.

I have imported several files from two different action cameras with the same results. The audio file format is ACC for these files.

Audio and Video tracks both shows in the timeline,,, but there are no waveforms in the MP4 file

Waveforms in the timeline obviously show up in the WAV and MP3 files.

Any guidance for this dilemma would be greatly appreciated.

Windows N series differ from the Windows home and Pro without the N in a few ways.

Most notably, you do not get codec licenses for H.264 and H.265 that DaVinci Resolve needs from the OS - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 45b7779041

Also, while Windows allows for many flavours of H.264/H.265 to be read natively, some need DaVinci Resolve Studio and possibly hardware acceleration support.

You will want to refer to the Davinci Resolve codec support document, and search for your hardware vendor specific encode decode matrix.

I’ve had a similar issue with action cam footage before, and it can be really frustrating. If you're using Insta360 cameras, they have some great accessories that could help streamline your setup: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Insta360/page/2A4E9629-9C41-48D0-B37A-F3A6CF3D74D9. One thing that worked for me was converting the audio from ACC to WAV or MP3 before importing it into Davinci Resolve.
