solved the problem!!! Also the Topaz plugin was preventing Davinci from running. I deleted the plugin from the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX and everything worked.

Can't start davinci, everything worked fine on version 19.4 then I put the 20th it worked for 3 days and stopped starting. I tried 19 and 18, they don't start. I put driver 566, I cleaned the registry, I deleted config files. Nothing helps from the advice on this forum.

Dwaine Maggart wrote:That single file does not help. Please provide the following:

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows Desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open the Windows System Information app and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here. Make sure the links don't require access credentials.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

That totally worked.

I tried everything. I deleted the entire plugins folder because I don't use Topaz AI as a plugin.

Topaz support told me I could do it.

I wish I found your thread before I troubleshot for hours. This was on the 16th.

I didn't find the answer on the forum that day. It was probably there, and posted by you.

Thanks.

This is why Resolve would very much benefit from sandboxing the plugins. Could be very light weight - as in a signal handler that catches exceptions and a deadman timer that catches hangs. That’d solve 90+% of issues with plugins destabilizing Resolve.

Dwaine Maggart wrote:Your config.dat and .config.data related files are bad. You have a good backup copy of the config.dat file, which is the most important.

Open File Explorer Options, and on the View tab, enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".

Also unselect "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then in File Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\markd\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

Delete the config.dat file and .config.data files.

Right click the config.dat.bak file and select Copy.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!. That worked. Finally. All that years of failling... O_o

Now select the Paste menu. That should make a new file called config.dat - Copy.bak

Rename that file to config.dat

Now Resolve should start.

If Resolve still doesn't start, send a new Resolve log file.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! That worked. All the years of failing to fix this. o_O

It seems I'm just another victim in this long line of sufferers whose DaVinci program won't start ;) I have had two days of fruitless searching with Google and ChatGpt and no results! Okay, at least Windows has received a bunch of new drivers, including the graphics card driver...

I haven’t made any hardware changes. It might be related to a Windows update or some deeper system setting. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling different versions of Resolve, cleaning leftover files, updating GPU drivers (using clean installation), updating C++ Libraries etc., but nothing helps. Resolve simply does not start, it stops usually with the splash screen message "Loading video plugins".

Any help would be much appreciated :!:

System information of the computer (NFO file) and DaVinci's log file are here:

Deleting the Topaz Plugins from "C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins" worked. Thank you, gentlemen.

These are the ones I deleted:
Topaz Video AI.ofx.bundle
Topaz Video AIframeinterpolation.ofx.bundle
DaVinci Resolve, Capture One, Affinity Suite, Topaz AI Suite, Cubase, ProTools, Live, Digital Performer.

Sorry – now the link have to be open one:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

I have obtained these logs using version 19.1.4. But I have tried also versions 19.0.1 and 20.0b1. I have observed that hanging daVinci program occurs at the same way in all cases.

Your Topaz OFX plugin is crashing Resolve.

To verify that's the issue, do the following:

Disable 3rd party OFX Plugins in Resolve for Windows

If 3rd party OFX plugins are causing Resolve not to start, do the following to troubleshoot:

In File Explorer, go to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX

In the OFX folder is a folder called Plugins

Rename the Plugins folder to Plugins.orig

Now Resolve should start.

In the Plugins folder will be folder for each OFX package you've installed. Move those out of the Plugins folder one at a time, to figure out which is causing the issue with Resolve.

Of course, change Plugins.orig back to Plugins when you do that.

And/or, see the post just above yours.

Thank You, Dwaine,

my Resolve is working again!

You are better than ChatGPT :-)! The latter was also very eager and moderately smart, but was unaware of the possibility that the problem could be caused by OFX plugins.
