20.0b Fairly consistent crashing with Fusion maybe MediaOut

PostThu Apr 24, 2025 1:27 am

In 20.0b (MacOS), I'm working on a few Fusion compositions, and once in a while, the MediaOut node will quit outputting. I saw this behavior in 20.0b1 too, but the easy fix was to delete the MO node and replace it.

Since 20.0b, when I try and do that, selecting the MO node causes a strange hybrid crash.

DVR menus still are responsive, but the UI doesn't respond at all. I am even able to use the menu to collect Diagnostic logs (attached).

I can select quit and it even asks if I want to save, but I don't think that is actually happening and the app doesn't quit. I then have to Force Quit the application to get out and try again.

I've attached logs. Hopefully they are helpful!

Additionally, in another instance, I tried dragging a still image onto a comp as a MediaIn, and I got the spinning wheel of death. Not sure that is directly related or not, but my anecdotal opinion is something significant shifted between 20.0a and 20.0b in Fusion that is causing all of this.

Update: I discovered a workaround.

When re-launching DVR and editing the comp in question, I noticed an immediate Console error: MediaOut failed at frame 0.

So - I tried creating a new comp, copying and pasting all the nodes into the new one, and I was able to work again.

Not a solution, but at least an enabler.
