Topaz AI plugin crashing Resolve

PostFri Apr 25, 2025 5:58 pm

I'm still on the first version of 20 beta. haven't upgraded to 20.2 yet because of all the issues I've read.

I installed the Topaz AI plugin upgrade, then whenever just hovering over the Topaz 'Enhance' effect, Resolve 20 crashes immediately.

Any advice other than uninstalling Topaz?

Just remove the plugins. They're not compatible.

There are even issues with using them in version 19.

Fusion 19 would crash on start up for me if the Topaz plugins were present. I've removed them.

Topaz standalone works fine -- I just use it that way when I need it.

The Topaz plugin is a mess.
I've tried using it in the past, but it's never updated. It's slow and filled with bugs. It even slows down Resolve completely even when it's not in used after being used once in a session.

Topaz has a really strange development strategy.

It's a shame, because the OFX plugin could save so much time when you just need to upscale a clip directly on the timeline, without all the back-and-forth hassle with the standalone app.

Yes and… Resolve needs to protect itself from bugs in plugins. It’s not hard to protect against most of the issues.

Or at least state that a plugin is causing the crash. I've been having trouble yesterday and today, reinstalling drivers, the app, etc - trying to figure out why it was crashing during load. Only to find out it's Topaz Video.

Like it's fine if it can't auto disable it, or recover or something - but at least when it crash i wish it would say "Bad plugin" lol
