Beginner File Question / Originals and Blackmagic Cloud

PostSun Apr 27, 2025 9:53 pm

We use Camtasia on the PC to do our screen recordings and want to do our final editing in Resolve - which we have been able to do so far :D

So now I'm trying to understand the proper Resovle folder/file structure - we are using BM Cloud.

Our Setup

1. We export from Camtasia to .mp4 and the source file is stored locally (e.g C:\Camtasia\someFile.mp4).

2. When we then create a BM Cloud Project the storage is set by deafult to: \Users\UserName\Davinci Resolve Media\ and a new folder is created with the project name (so far, so good).

3. In that folder there's a shorcut to the source file, and BM creates a \proxy folder where in the original file's folder C:/Camtasia/proxies/someFile.mp4

Questions:

1) Where do people generally keep their unedited source files? I'm used to Premiere where we keep everything in one folder -- including the original source files.

2) Ideally I'd have a "projects" folder with something like this:

\projects\
\projects\BM-Project-1
\projects\BM-Project-1\source
\projects\BM-Project-1\proxies
\projects\BM-Project-1\graphics
\projects\BM-Project-1\rendered

but from what I've read, Resolve doesn't work that way.

What is the most basic folder/file structure for a Resolve project? (I CAN use an external drive to keep my source files but we do have the space to store them on an SSD on our system).

Thank you for your help and your patience!
