Laptop Spec, are they enough?

PostSat Apr 26, 2025 4:55 pm

Hello Everyone, hope you are all well :D

I've just purchased this Laptop which I will be using purely for Video Editing as my latest Laptop was not powerful enough (had a built in GPU). These are the specs:

ACER Aspire 5 15.6" Laptop

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-1255U Processor, 10-core, 1.2 GHz / 4.7 GHz, 12 MB cache

GPU: - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 - 4 GB GDDR6

SSD: 1TB

RAM: 16 GB DDR4 (expandable to 32GB)

I started working on a project last night and it seemed to be working really smoothly until I used an Adjustment Clip with the Glitch Effect and I notice that when I did playback, it lagged a lot! I've read online that that is a very heavy effect but I am just worried I might have bought a computer not strong enough? Is that GPU good enough?

I'm going to be making small videos for music promotion and most of the time it will probably be some mirror effects and a couple of layers of video (composite) with some flashing/lights effects and text. Also, would like to make video like this one in the future: Jacana People - Tahara music video on Youtube

Do you think this specs will allow me to do these type of videos?

Thank you all very much!

Cheers,

Fabio

You will find that a GPU with 4GB of Vram, which is the very minimum, will have problems with fx that require a lot of processing. I have 6GB of Vram and would see the same. The more Vram on the GPU the better as it is used for image processing. With newer versions of Resolve the more Vram the better. There are some fx that will not run smoothly in realtime no matter how much processing capacity you have available, until they are rendered.
Many users will recommend GPUs with at least 8 or 12GB of Vram.

I had a 4gb GTX1650 and life was painful even in 1080p. 4k timeline was completely impossible.

I would not get less than 8gb in 2025.

Sadly Laptop GPUs get very expensive to get a sensible amount of VRAM, not like desktops where $300 Intel cards have 16gb.
