Confused by the way Resolve is sorting file name

PostThu May 01, 2025 6:29 pm

I have always named timelines, folders, etc by the Date first 20250501_etc..... naming structure so that it can always easily be sorted.

I just duplicated my timeline, named it as I always do, and for some reason no matter what I do it's considering

20250311 to be above 20250501....

You can see literally every other date in this list follows the correct order.

Does this sort persist when you go away from this bin and then come back? Or when you change which column to sort by?

I’ve noticed that Resolve doesn’t resort immediately when changing names. This may be a feature as it keeps items from “jumping away” when renaming them.

Is it possible that the 0 (zero) is actually the letter O? What happens if you cut-and-paste one of the other names and then change just one digit?

I generally backups with dates in the file names, but I haven't gone with the year/month/date convention yet. I know a lot of people do, but old habits die hard. As long as you have a system that works, it works.

Also, why do the two 1’s look so different? Maybe try re-typing that whole name to double-check it’s correct.
