I am working on a project and attempting to sync proxies to a remote editor. I am having trouble understanding what Resolve is doing behind the scenes, and how the media is organized and referenced in relation to cloud projects and syncing.
Here is the workflow I am attempting:
What is actually happening, is that the workstation computer is not generating or syncing proxies. Instead, it downloads the already uploaded proxies to the 'Project Media Location', but seems to not use them, and still links to the proxies on the external drive. Then, it won't generate or sync anything else and shows everything is up to date. It also shows no cloud icons on the clips in the media pool. It appears that if I delete a clip and re import it, then it gets picked up and renders/uploads.
If I connect the drive back to the laptop and open the project there, it immediately resumes generating and uploading.
So my specific questions are:
How does the Project Media Location work? There seems to be confusion surrounding this, and I haven't been able to find any clear answers. As a download location it makes sense, but it's not clear how it relates to the original media and how I should work with it.
It appears that Resolve is keeping track of imported media locally on each computer in some way. I'm wondering if I can reset that somehow, or if there is some other way to make this work. I have cleared the cache and restarted everything multiple times with no change.
The laptop is a Macbook Air M2, and the workstation is Windows 10. Both are running Resolve 19.1.4.
Would love any input or thoughts on these issues and this type of workflow!
Here is the workflow I am attempting:
- Media comes in on set using a laptop and external drives, proxies automatically generated and uploaded. Not all proxies are able to be generated and uploaded on set, due to internet speed and render times.
- Return to my workstation, connect the same external drive, and open the same cloud project. My hope was that the project would connect to the same media on the drive and automatically resume generating and uploading proxies from there.
- Remote editor downloads proxies and starts editing in the cloud project.
