Metadata from XML sidecar files ?

PostFri May 09, 2025 7:00 pm

I’m shooting with the Canon C400 (XF-AVC or XF-HEVC), and I see that Canon generates .XML and .CPF sidecar files alongside the .MXF clips.

My question is:
Is there any way to get DaVinci Resolve to read lens metadata (like focal length, aperture, etc.) from these XML files—similar to what’s embedded when shooting in RAW formats?

I’ve placed all the sidecar files in the same folder as the media, but Resolve doesn’t seem to display any lens info.

Has anyone figured out how to make this work, or is this just a current limitation?

Thanks!

I've never heard of this being possible. To the best of my knowledge, Resolve needs that Metadata to be in the media file, not separate.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

If you keep the camera card folder structure whole, Resolve should be able to read the metadata automatically. You cannot break the folder structure of the camera card.

Now there's an idea I hadn't considered.
