This makes no sense to me. It looks like you have to unscrew your current mount and then screw in this new mount. Why would you not just buy a PL mount replacement part for your EF mount Pyxis if you decided to switch to PL mount or just sell the old camera and buy a PL mount version?

Now, if they had put an eVND inside this aftermarket mount replacement, I would think this would be a runaway success.

Dunno, looks to be sturdier than a PL adapter over an L mount for example... I personally hate adapters.

The PL mount Pyxis is as sturdy as this one. You just have to make that choice when you buy the Pyxis or you need to order the replacement mount part from Blackmagic and swap your native mount out.

I wasn't aware you could get different mounts for the Pyxis line from BMD. I thought the Pyxis line was not mount swappable... my bad.

Francisco I believe you are correct and this is the reason this mount exists. While you can buy different Pyxis version from Blackmagic, I believe they won't sell you an individual mount.

I personally went for a Kippertie PL Mount adapter, because of the integrated ND solution that the Pyxis is lacking. But if there was a mount instead of an adapter with ND I would totally go for that. So even I don't need this adapter from C7, I still applaud Krzysztof for bringing this product to market and giving Pyxis users more options.

Corey where you have seen an OEM replacement mount for sale? Or have you personally ordered one from Blackmagic? What was the cost for it?

It's indeed what I thought when I first saw this. It's basically giving me the option to mount swap same as my UMPG2

Francisco - as I understand the Pyxis mount isn't swappable in the sense that other Blackmagic cameras were, as you have to manually disconnect the lens data and power ribbons that power active EF and L-Mount lenses. The ribbon is quite thin and therefore could be damaged when swapping mounts frequently. Because of this reason I don't think Blackmagic will ever offer OEM mounts as an user swappable option, so I am glad C7 stepped up.

While I have not opened a Pyxis myself, I believe the basic principle is similar to Pocket line, where I swapped the Wooden Camera PL-Mod. Its a bit intricate but definitely no heart surgery.

Can you outline why you went with the Kippertie vs. the Mofage, at much lower cost? Trying to decide which L to PL mount to order for the 12K. The mofage has VND and drop in ND choices, but requires a clear frame be dropped in, which is the only slight downside.

Hi Richard - two things that convinced me to go with the Kippertie: First, almost all VNDs all work as a polarizer, I didnt confirm this with Mofage, but I believe theres work like that as well. Since I almost always have a Rota-Pol on camera when I work with skin tones and natural lighting, I like to keep ND and polarizer separate. Secondly, and probably more important, as you already mentioned, is the ability to quickly switch to clear without handling any glass or changing inserts. That to me on fast moving doc projects is easily worth the price difference.

One downside of the Kippertie however is that it has slightly less clearance in regards to the PL lenses that you can attach. So it boils down to what lenses you are planning to attach as well.

I haven't seen the mount available, but figured you can order parts from Blackmagic. Since my OEM PL mount still has all the "non-PL" mount internal HW and software, and a similar mount swap is available on the URSA, it should be plug and play with unscrewing the old mount, unplugging the cable and reinstalling. Not sure if the factory mount even has any sort of shim, since things should be built to high tolerances.
