It seemed a little clunky at the start but as it got going I started to enjoy it and was completely surprised by the ending.

I didn't really notice the editing as the story got my attention. Maybe a few more close-ups of the builder's face in the bedroom, who incidentally looks a bit like a young Bruce Willis.

The main thing about editing is that you shouldn't notice the editing and in that respect it was rather pleasing.

My (now defunct) amateur film making club used to have an annual cup for the best edited film but how on earth they were supposed to judge it was a mystery to me as the whole idea of editing is to create a natural reality so there is nothing really to see. If you can see the edits the editor has failed as is the case of many complete amateur productions filled with extravagant transitions and effects.

Of course nobody on this forum would be guilty of such behaviour!
Forget specs. It's surprising what can be achieved with basic hardware!

Thanks for the feedback. I thought the beginning was shaky for real, because the takes that I had to choose from showing the house, were all shaky. I feel Great that you think most of my edit was good.

The thing I picked up on are the inconsistences in the sound where some clips have noisier ambient sound than others which draws attention to the edits. A bit of sound post production is needed. ;)

On the whole very good job!
The edit at 18 sec slapped me like a truck. I suggest fixing it.
There are plenty of options to use prelapping sound (J/L cuts) to smooth the cuts.
There are places where I wanted to see the person’s reaction rather than the speaker or the insert of the present. So watch and see if you feel that itch as well.

Yea, I realized I should get better at audio from doing the project. So, right now I'm going through an audio tutorial from Jason Ladovski on Youtube.

Oh okay cool. I'm not sure if a 0.1 second cross dissolve would work at 18 secs. I thinking a 1 second fade to black, will be too noticeable, since the video has only been playing fro 18 seconds.

The next project from Cinestudy is abou L-Cuts/Split edits, so I can practice that.

Cool, yes I could show the reaction of the person being spoken too, instead of the speaker at some points.

My mom was also tell me try to use some zoom ins and slow down or speed up the time of some clips.

Thanks for answering.

Don't beat yourself up as you are limited to what the camera crew provide so if they don't give you closeups you can't use any.

If their pans and zooms are not too steady there is little you can do about it.

Also take a peek at Walter Murch’s priority order for what to consider when editing. The FIRST thing is emotional impact and the LAST is continuity.

“In fact, from this Video and Filmmaker post, they quote Murch who puts a numeric value on each of the six rules:
Emotion (51%)
Story (23%)
Rhythm (10%)
Eye Trace (7%)
2D Place of Screen (5%)
3D Space (4%)”
