clean feed on third monitor freezes Resolve Studio [solved]

PostSun Mar 09, 2025 8:31 am

I have had this issue since 18.6, but sadly, updating to 19 did not resolve it. I am stumped as to what the problem is. Any input would be appreciated since it seriously impacts my ability to work.

steps to reproduce
With three monitors connected, set two of them as primary and secondary output in Resolve. Then click Workspace -> Clean Feed and select the one remaining monitor.

expected behaviour
The third screen shows the video clean feed whilst I edit.

actual behaviour
Video clean feed shows up on the third monitor, but Resolve essentially freezes until I disable the clean feed. I cannot change tabs nor edit anything. Opening menus is kind of possible, but all menu dropdowns stay visible on the screen even after you close the menu. The only button that does anything is "Workspace -> Clean Feed -> None", which correctly disables the clean feed and restores normal behaviour.

Resolve version
DaVince Resolve Studio 19.1.3 build 7, Linux version, downloaded from the official Blackmagic website.

graphics card
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 with official Nvidia driver, version 570.124.04, three screens connected via DVI, HDMI, and DP, respectively. I know this is not the newest card in the world, but Resolve runs smoothly on it otherwise, and clean feed worked fine in version 18.5.
The behaviour occurs no matter which screens I select as primary, secondary, and clean output, and it occurs also with the monitors connected to different output slots of the graphics card.

operating system
Current Arch Linux with X windowing system.

Please let me know if you need any further information, or if this problem also exists on your machine.

I have three HD monitors connected to my GTX 1060 exactly the same way as your GTX 1650, but using Windows. No problem using Clean Feed here. Could this be a Linux problem?
Resolve Studio 20.0 build 49
Dell XPS 8700 i7-4790, 24GB RAM, 2 x Evo SSDs, GTX1060/6GB (572.16 Studio Driver), Win10 Home, Speed Editor, Faderport 1, Calibrated Eizo ColorEdge CS230 + BenQ & Samsung monitors for UI, Canon C100mk2, Zoom H2n.

Yes, I assume this is a problem only with Linux, because otherwise more people would have complained by now.

Update in case anyone stumbles across this via internet search in twenty years with the same problem: switching to an absolute bare-minimum window manager on X11 (in my case, EXWM, which does essentially no automatic things for you) fixed the problem. Both XFCE and Gnome have this problem, but on EXWM, Resolve Studio works flawlessly. That is good enough for me.

3d device is a samsung tv connect by hdmi. wanting to use TV as Clean out but locks up resolve each time I try to send clean feed to it. I reset UI as suggested still locks up resolve. Not sure what I need to try next. AW.
