What Ultrastudios Can I use

PostMon May 19, 2025 4:12 pm

For my first system, I have a 4k signal out of Davinci Resolve (Mac Studio) and I want to have a 4k but also an HD downconverted signal to a second monitor. What are my options to purchase? I currently have an Ultrastudio 4k mini and I can't have separate signals like that, which is frustrating.

Second system is a PC which can have a decklink card installed. Looking for the same option (downconverted).

Both would use SDI signals.

Thanks!

Following. Getting any sort of usage info about their products is like trying to ride a bicycle with bald tires up an icy hill. You'd think the products would at least include SOME tech info but nope, just marketing.

Yes, I know that feeling, it's frustrating that you can't have separate signals from ultrastudio 4k mini..but it is what it is..

Can we have more detailed information of your setup connections? Your both monitors (4K and HD) are both connected to SDI outputs of Ultrastudio 4K mini? Both of your monitors have to be connected over sdi?

If your second monitor have an HDMI input, you can use Mini Converter SDI to HDMI 6G, it will downconvert your 4K SDI signal to HD signal on HDMI output, it has Downconverter built in.

Lol, let say that you are not completely wrong about that heheh.. but anyhow.. What exactly you need, maybe explain and someone can help?

If you need some info about ultrastudio 4k mini here you can find some tech specs: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/api/pr ... hspecs.pdf

If you need more about setting it up you can find it here: https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/ ... 2608010000

There is not a lot about it but it is mostly setted up in desktop video app.

If you need something else then explain what are you looking for so someone can help.

I guess my quip is more: "Please tell us in full official detail how to use the thing you're selling" rather than "Wait until we run into issues and have to post the same question 500 times in 500 ways so we can get random replies from random people with random experiences on random systems and then wait days to maybe or maybe not get a response." Kind of a weird way to operate a business that invents and sells boxes. The UltraStudio, for example, is only marketed as "amazing editing monitoring!" That's it. No, "Use this to get a clean feed out of your computer for color-accurate grading using the Resolve Color page clean feed. No 'here's now to calibrate using this device.' No 'This is where the unit will work and where it won't." Just, "Amazing!" Oh, and some stickers included in the box.

I don't mean to be a complainer. It's just frustrating when you buy into a solution and get left out in the cold.

I use a Micro Converter SDI to HDMI 12G to downconvert UHD to HD signal, that downconversion is active if HDMI output detects a HD resolution display. If I need that downconversion to be SDI instead of HDMI I just add a Micro Converter HDMI to SDI 3G to the chain. That was the simplest way I could figure out to add hardware realtime downconversion in decent quality to a second monitor from a UltraStudio 4K Mini with equipment I have had on the shelf.

2 Flanders monitors with SDI or DisplayPort.

I think that's the right answer. They can only build so much into the UltraStudio boxes. I'm not sure if the comparable AJA boxes can do more, but they would also cost a lot more.
