resolve studio 19.1.3 - not recognizing fusion dongle

PostWed May 21, 2025 9:56 pm

hi,

any ideas how to get studio to activate with my fusion dongle? I confirmed via phone support that it should activate resolve studio - and did for past couple versions.

I uninstalled and re installed no luck.

i am on mac os 14.7.5 - fusion dongle on caldigit thunderbolt dock.

It would depend on what type of Fusion dongle you have. There are legacy Eyeon dongles which would not work with Resolve.

Can you share an image of the dongle?

That does look like a BMD Fusion dongle, so should work. That being the case, please send a Resolve diagnostics log. Generate that by opening Finder and navigating to:

/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve

And running CaptureLogs.app

That will put a .tgz log file on the Desktop.

And just to note, that's the root /Library folder, NOT the /Users/username/Library folder.

Why do you think it's a dongle issue? If it was a dongle issue, you'd get a prompt to enter an activation code. That doesn't seem to be the case. It's happy with the dongle, but crashing for some other reason.

It looks like the last time you tried a dongle, you had Resolve 19.1.1 installed, in February.

If you install 19.1.4 Studio, what does it do?

If it still crashes, please send another diagnostics log.

it is not crashing. I dont believe i ever said it was crashing.

it says i need a license for resolve studio. which my fusion dongle provided until the last software update.

You only get that message if you have the FREE version of Resolve installed (which you currently do, 19.1.3).

Install the Resolve Studio version to get the Studio features.

On the BMD support site for DaVinci Resolve and Fusion, there are 2 versions of each release. One called DaVinci Resolve, and one called DaVinci Resolve Studio. The one called DaVinci Resolve is the free version.

Download the DaVinci Resolve Studio version of your choice (I'd recommend the current 19.1.4 Studio version) install it, and you should be good to go.

An easy way to tell which version is installed, is to watch the splash screen when you launch Resolve.

If you have the Studio version installed, you'll see Studio on the splash screen.

If you don't see Studio on the splash screen, you've got the free version installed.
