Fusion macro effect changes clip resolution unintentionally

PostWed Jun 04, 2025 5:16 pm

I am looking for help with trouble I'm having with my first fusion macro. I expect there's a simple solution that I've not been able to find.

Purpose of the macro: Take the typical output from a zoom recording of 5 people, and replace the black background that zoom adds above, below and to the sides of the group of 5 people with an image.

Here's how I set it up in the Fusion tab:
* load a black and white bitmap where the white part corresponds to where the group of 5 people appear in the zoom recordings.
* apply that image as a bitmap (luminance) mask to the clip loaded through MediaIn1
* load a second, full-color image, and apply AutoGain to it to fade it out
* merge these two such that the masked clip is in the foreground and the second image in the background.

I got this all working with an example clip in the fusion page, saved the macro to the folder for effect templates, and restarted the program.

I've next gone back into the original project, copied the original, unaltered clip I started with into the timeline, and applied the effect I saved.
Expected result: the two clips, side by side in the timeline, should appear identical.
Actual result: the second clip is masked and the background merged as expected, but the contents of the masked clip are "zoomed in".

I suspect that this has something to do with the fact that the original clip is 720p and the project output is 1080p.

FYI, I have also saved the same nodes as a group in the macros folder. When I drag that into a fusion tab with an unaltered clip, and connect it between MediaIn and MediaOut1, I get the expected result. I can obviously use that technique going forward, but would like to be able to achieve this right from the Edit tab.
