Auto Re-Sync Imports Broken for Certain Image Files

PostTue Jun 03, 2025 10:48 am

Hi all,
I’m having an issue in DaVinci Resolve 20 (latest Studio version) with the automatic re-sync media option.

When I export new JPEGs into a folder that’s already linked to my project, Resolve usually picks them up correctly. But intermittently, it imports a version of the file that’s completely unusable.

As you can see in the screenshots attached, the imported files often have part of the filename in brackets (e.g., EX-1-[2-5].jpg). When I try to drag these onto the timeline, they only appear for a single frame and can’t be resized or edited. It’s as if Resolve is treating them as some sort of corrupted or placeholder media.

This only happens with some of the files, and re-exporting or renaming doesn’t always solve it. The affected files are fully functional outside of Resolve.

Specs:
– DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 (latest build)

– MacBook Pro M1 Max
– 64 GB RAM
– macOS Sequoia 15.5
– Media stored locally (not on external drive)

Would really appreciate any insight — is this a bug, or is Resolve interpreting something in the filename structure differently? Thanks in advance.

I think Resolve might use those brackets for Image Sequences. Don't use them in file names on your hard drive.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
